I’ve got a mk1 mx5 which i’ve had for a couple of years now without any real issues. Recently however I’ve noticed a squealing noise which lasts for a second or so coming from the engine bay. This happens every time I pull away from a junction after coming to a complete stop, at the point at which the accelerator bites.
Any suggestions as to what this may be or is it a garage job?

Hi, does it happen at any other time, such as pressing and releasing the clutch in neutral when idling? Is it at the point the clutch bites and drive is taken up? Any judder? It could be just damp/condensation/oil mist - slip it a few times to warm it up and see if it changes the sound. Does the clutch work ok or does it slip at all under full acceleration when fully engaged? It could be the clutch release bearing getting stiff and squealing on the fingers as the pressure comes off it. Or it may be the plate itself is worn to the rivets.
