Hi, my daughter has a Eunos 1.8 auto, mk1, 1994. Recently she has noticed a wet patch on the road under the engine after a run. Had a quick look when I was last with her - she lives a 100 miles away. At first I couldn’t see where the leak was but the expansion tank was empty and when I took the rad cap off the top of the rad had no water, so the coolant was topped up.
On her car the plastic air inlet pipe from filter to carbie has a sort of plastic pot in the middle and under the pipe. Suddenly coolant started pouring out of that for a wee while, then stopped. We couldn’t do any more at the time but she is still loosing coolant but not at a great rate - after a hundred mile run and then a local trip the rad was still full but the expansion tank was down to the minimum level.
The only thing I can think of is that by the carbie there is an air sensor that has cooling water connections that may be leaking, perhaps the sensor has corroded through. I cannot think of anything else that might put coolant into the air pipe.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how was it sorted?
Is there any other source of coolant to that air inlet pipe?
She is skint at the minute so although she has a local guy who is good on Mazda’s in general and MX5’s in particular she would like to hold off a visit whilst funds recover - what can she do in the short term, other than not run it?!
