Eunos Roadster / MX5 Parts difference

I thought I was going to need a new water pump, however as it turned out it was not needed.

However on enquiring about the part I was advised that the Water Pump was different on the Eunos and the MX5.

Is this correct, if so what other parts differ? (if the list is not to long…)

Who told you it was different? The Mazda part number may be different but they are interchangeable (same age and engine to same age and engine). They changed slightly over the years.

If someone at your local garage told you that then you should find another garage !!

This is an old chestnut put around by Mazda dealers years ago to try and discourage “grey” imports. They even used to say that if they plugged the car into their diagnostic computer the answers came up in Japanese !!

No it wasnt a garage, i was told it through a motor factors whilst pricing up the part.

I was a little surprised I must admit and wouldnt have purchased without posting on here anywayThumbs up

It’s a rumour spread within the trade and believed by too many.

Ask your insurance the difference in insurance cost between a UK MX5 and a JDM Eunos Roadster. Then ask them where Mazda’s UK factory is that built the UK model. Wink

It is certainly true and a little sad that buying parts from a Mazda dealership is a lot less hassle for Lightning MxQueen (a UK MK1) than buying bits for my Eunos V-SpecII, its a bit of a joke really but i give my UK cars` vin no. at the counter even if its for the import Hitting head on wall

Mention a Eunos Roadster at a UK Mazda dealership and see the barriers come up before you, might as well stride in there with a sawn-off shotgun!

Dr. EunosGeek

I would just tell them the part you want i.e water pump, then the cars year, engine size and transmission.

Load of tash, god the amount of times i had rants at a counter at Mazda dealerships over the years is unreal, the main one being stockport Mazda, absolute crap, i had an owner waiting for a 1.8 eunos roadster top rad hose from the stockport dealership, they told him that it would take a week or two because it was an import, i got on the phone to the parts desk and told them to go into their stock room and pick up a 1.8 mx5 one because it was the same part, it took a lot of shouting before i got through to his thick skull, that is just one of many many i have hit with them.

The best by far for the parts side i have ever used is warrington mazda, what the girl on the parts desk does not know is unreal, and she understands that the parts are the same.

A 1.6 water pump marked as for use with a Mx5 WILL fit a 1.6 JDM roadster, the 1.8 water pump marked up for a Mx5 WILL fit a 1.8 JDM roadster.

If you are in any doubt over what will and wont fit for repair and servicing just shout, and i’ll phone the dealer for you.

Thanks for the info everybody and for the offer to call the dealer if needed.

Now I know that all parts are the same for the relevant models I will be fine. I just wanted to check with you guys first before I insisted they were all the same and then looked rather silly when the weren’t!!!

Thanks again.

Wayne - my mate Chris works on that desk at Stockport, I’ll tell him you’re a fan he he

If you fancy throwing some bricks Ill let you have his address

(they’ve tried charging me more for “eunos” parts in the past, by saying they only had the import version - very helpfully saying "this will fit and it’s better then the uk part)

I love this! This is our 5th emergency service working, right here for us Thumbs up
