Like many used imports, my Eunos came with only one key.
I had a second key cut to the pattern of the original key by a local locksmith but despite several attempts at cutting/fettling the new key did not work in my locks. Possibly because the original key is over 16 years old now and is probably quite worn. Examination of the copied key shows that too much material has probably been cut off the blank.
I then had a key cut using the code on the original key by R and R Security. This key was cut and despatched on the day that the order was placed and works superbly in all 6 locks on the car. The cost was £7.50 + VAT and included postage by 1st class recorded delivery. This is significantly cheaper than the £17+ charged by Dandy Cars for a similar service.
I have no association with R and R Security other than as a satisfied customer.
My car only had one key when I bought it. Timpson cut me a couple more, with immobiliser chips in them too (late UK Mk1 cars have a factory immobiliser with a static code, and Timpson have a reader which can grab the code and copy it to a new chip). No problems with them.
Anyone know if there’s a corresponding number on the lock, so locks without keys can be used? I’ve no keys for boot, glovebox or cubby hole and it’s bugging me. I’d rather not change the whole set of locks if I can avoid it…
The original door lock barrels should have the key number stamped on them. I can tell you that it is definitely possible to strip down the door lock barrels and rekey them, I have done this myself to replace a worn drivers door lock barrel.
Not sure if you can strip down the glovebox, centre console and boot lock barrels as I have not had cause to remove mine yet. If you can get the tumblers out then you can rebuild them to match any given key.
