As some of you may have already seen on a previous post I recently purchased an ex Jota GT, this was one of the 3 original cars that was driven by several motoring magazines and I presume an original development car. Unfortunately it has been retunred to standard (still has the Recaro’s though) and so far i’ve had no luck in finding out any information on where i may be able to obtain the parts to return it to its former glory. I had an email back from Jota Sport informing me that Mazda wont let them redo the car for me??? and that Omex were involved with the development, otherwise i’m struggling.
Can anyone give me any further information, does anyone actually own a Jota converted car? I would love to get as much of the originality back as possible so any information would be appreciated.
I have one of the four Jota’s. Bought new from Lodge garage. What do you need to know? I have the details of all four cars. Is yours VN62YWC? That’s the only one in silver, which was one of two press demonstrators. XP6
Update- just seen the other posts. Seems as though it was a press car, and has been converted back. That’s a real shame… I wonder if VN62YWB has also been converted back? If it has, then there are only two Jotas, my one and the red one.
I’ve pretty much given up on fully converting it back but I would like to get the rear diffuser/exhaust setup. Don’t suppose you know if these can be ordered from anywhere?
Have you done anything to yours or is it perfect as it is?
They’ve been supplying carbonmiata parts for a while now. I think they can add whatever you want to their next shipment, but they only order when it’s large a enough order to make it economically viable. So the wait could be anything up to 6 months. The site is owned and ran by ‘Dan the alloy rad man’. He often does group buys over on MX5Nutz. As does Mr. Carbon Miata himself.
Just for future reference, Dan at fast5 has ceased trading? He put an announcement on Nutz to that effect, some time ago. Had dealings over the years, a top bloke!
I’ve got a couple of bits from Carbon Miata and the quality is okay and delivery reasonable considering it comes from China ( not the USA). The diffuser they do is slightly different to the proper Jota one but it looks cool and as I don’t do fake carbon I’ve not seen a better option.
I know Jota have a sister company that make carbon fibre parts. I would ask them for a rear diffuser, you can find them via Jota’s website.
I’ve seen photo’s of other MX5’s with a central exhaust in the mx5 championship, I’m guessing they might be available elsewhere. You could try emailing Sam at Jota for some info.
To answer your other question, my Jota is staying standard. (Except for the smarttop roof module and “Jota” number plate) It just wouldn’t be right to change anything.
Just had an email from Sam and they dont have the moulds anymore so it looks like Carbon Miata will be the best option, although this isnt exactly the same.
Hi, bit of a thread bump, I pass this car regularly and am assuming it’s not a “full” Jota but a Sport Tech due to the exhausts, it is a Mark 3.75 model with the “eyebrows”. Pic is from Google Maps, can get number plate next week.
