Exhaust parts: Will they fit?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 1990 NA6
  2. I’m based near: Chesterfield
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Exhaust part compatibility

Hello all,
I’m emptying my pockets again on car parts instead of saving for a house (oops).

In a nutshell, I’m replacing my manifold and downpipe as they both are totally buggered. They have done well for 36 years old, but ultimately need attention. I had my heart set on a GravityPerformance manifold, but found out they are only compatible with the 1994-1996 models with the 440mm catalytic converters. Mine is a 375mm as its a super early UK spec.

My backup choice is the MX5Parts manifold. And I’ve no problem hitting “Buy Now”. But, theres a slight difference in shape when it comes to the flanges that bolt to either side of the cat (or bypass in my case). I’ve posted picture below to illustrate, but was wondering if I need to worry about whether they would fit together without leaks etc.

For brevity, the bypass has the same shape flanges as the Cobalt midpipe/backbox system I have fitted already (picture #2). By all means, I’d love to have the full Cobalt system, but £670 for a manifold is just a little bit crazy for me

I’m probably being an idiot. So, trolls are welcome.

Cheers,
Mike

Quite a few second hand manifolds, downpipes and full systems on market place. Would save alot of dollar you can then spend on other stuff you do(nt) need!!

As long as the diameter is correct and bolts are the same distance apart it should be fine - 1st photo looks like there’s just “extra” metal left on the flange.
