Exhaust tooooooo loud

Hello all , I hope you can help me , before I go deaf . I purchased a Vspec about a week ago . It’s got a few things need sorting out . But I don’t think anything on the car is beyond tidying up . It’s got a small section of rust on the front inside edge of the back wheel arch . I’m pretty sure it’s not connected to the sill, although I will be looking for a recommendation for garage near me to cut tiny section out and repaint . So any suggestions very welcome , I’m in Uxbridge .

However what I really need first off is a recommendation on a garage which could offer me a solution to the exhaust noise . It’s a twin exhaust , which site either side of the rear number . I didn’t think it was that loud when I drove it on the recent purchase , but I now realise ithe error of my ways . So is there a way of muffling the noise slightly ? If so what garage would be able to do this ? I fear It’s not an average quick fit job . I dont

want to remove the double exhaust , because it does suit the car and doesn’t look like it’s a last moment bodge job , the bumper appears as though it was designed with exhaust in mind . Any help at all very much appreciated .

Noise is in the ears of beholder.

Check first if the CAT is there, or an unsilenced bypass pipe.

You do get silenced bypass pipes…if that does not do it or the CAT is in place, your knackered without going to the bother of having some sort of mid-pipe additional silencer done.

People have been known to cut open the CAT, gut it, and weld it up so check that one too.

If it’s the dual exit from the likes of Mx5Parts which I suspect its most likely, even they say the sound is not for everyone.

Or…Boots industrial earplugs.

Thanks for that reply .Im not afraid of a little noise , but when i put my foot down, every boy racer in the area starts drooling . My ears are , dare i use the overused word, LITERALLY buzzing in sympathy every time the car opens up . I don’t even have to put my foot down hard . Its the sort of noise i have to wear ear defenders to protect my hearing against . I believe it is the duel exit one , or if not very similar to that one . I logged on to the site , and read through all the comments about it being to loud .
As i say , at 51 im not an old fart , but the noise is way to much . Thats only the short journeys im taking , if i have to do a motor way run , then im going to end up bloody deaf . If anybody knows a really decent exhaust centre which could carry out a few checks , & tell me what id need to do to just damped down the roar , id very much appreciate it . I dont even mind driving further a field to get the work done . Im uxbridge based .

As above really, they are loud and droning.  I’ve read about Mk1/Mk2 dual back boxes being overly loud and have experienced their Mk3 back box, my missus couldn’t stand it and TBH it was getting to annoy me too. I chenged the MX5parts one for a Cobalt from Moss Europe, it has nice sporty tone without deafening you.

Having hunted around the forums for a clue as to where to go for my exhaust , I booked in to profusion customs not far from me . I had to swallow very hard before saying yes to the quote i was given . They took a look under the car , explained very carefully about what they do when constructing a system from scratch . He asked me to turn the engine over and give it a rev , his face said everything i needed to know . They do some really high end motors , so , compared to a lot of the normal customers they get , im sure my bill is laughable . But if his work is as good as ive been lead to believe , then its an investment for many years of sweet sounding miles on the road , instead of a whining wailing banshee ringing in my ears . My cars booked for the 28th , so if anyone is considering a new exhaust , i could always pop an update here . Im dropping off at 10 am and picking up[ around 5.30 , so its not a quick job , but then sod it , i want my moneys worth .
