External Car Cover

Hi

Merry Christmas and Happy new year ,
I am looking for an outdoor/external car cover for my MX5 ND,
Any recommendation please ?

There are many options available but I’ve always had mine from specialized car covers.
Not cheap, but made to measure for whatever car.
Triple layer, fleece lined and straps that fasten underneath the car to keep it secure.
Just got one for our mk1 mx5. Had them on two other cars, always been great.

A mate bought an external cover from Halfords two years ago for his NC. Still going strong and very happy with it. Didn’t cost a fortune either.

A question to those who use car covers.

I’ve read in various places on the Net that the car you use the cover on has to be spotlessly clean each time you put the cover on it. If not the dirt gets embedded in the underside of the cover and can act as an abrasive: 1) each time you put the cover on and align it, 2) if wind is able to continuously move the cover.

Is this true?

Yes . make sure it’s clean. Don’t put the cover on a wet car. On top of that remove the cover from time to time and open the windows to let the interior breath,

Definitely agree with BNsilver, make sure the car’s dry before putting on and air the car out every now and again if leaving over long periods. Mine has been covered from November to around March and had the cover off and windows open on one sunny day so far. I use the monsoon covers from MX5 parts. The mk1 fits well and mine have generally lasted for about a year each. I use it all year round and they get a lot of tree sap and other ■■■■ in the summer which really takes a toll. Definitely get a specific fitted cover. I previously had a small car Halfords cover for an mr2 and although it had straps that went underneath it would flap around like crazy in strong wind.

It is. I have protection for the weakest part of the car, the soft top. Cabrio Shield. It locks between the door and other body parts so it can’t be taken off, is for the roof only, good fabric. Had it on during pretty severe storms for European understandings and it didn’t give one bit. It fits so well and tight that wind doesn’t really get a grip on it. Really fond of it. They also have a breathing version for more long term use.
