Toto Wolff thinking about relinquishing position as team Principal, next season, question where’s he off to, to work for Chase Carey by any chance?

Maybe he’s just had a bellyfull and wants to come up for air.
Also got wee sprog now
maybe just needs a change of pace & lifestyle.
Always liked Toto. Cool dude & dry-funny, very cryptic.

As I read it he’s contemplating leave the top job after 6 years(?) because of stress, and he doesn’t want to go from being “very good” to “good”, and he does own a large chunk of the racing outfit (30%?), so I don’t see him going to an equally stressful position in a team that he has no personal (financial) interest in.

Thing is, if you are at the top there is only one way to go. I guess that is a unique stress/ pressure. If you jump ship to an underdog then the worst case is you remain an underdog, and everyone says the whole package is flawed.

But if the underdog starts improving - everyone gives you the credit.

A lot to be said for quitting while still at the top

The young guns :muscle: bring it home in Italy :it: great race just like old days:racing_car:

Now that’s what I call racing :ok_hand:

Must admit
I watched the whole thing through but only thanks to LH’s upcock & Mad Max’s misfortune. Fezzas hardly need even a mention.
So a reverse grid ( cough!) say every 3 races might be fun
maybe not!

Seems to me that unless the Mercedes get off the grid first and shoot off down the road, when their in the pack other cars are just as competitive. Yes they qualify at the front but usually in qualy their not behind other cars. I say again this weekend was a debacle Drivers egos got in the way of normal track etiquette and they paid the price, when they had the chance to do something different.
Sad to see the Williams family leave racing, I have always been a fan of Williams thru thick and thin, because they were a British team, thinking of changing my allegiance to McLaren. It’s a pity British fans don’t support British teams, like the Ferrari fans.

Yes was a fantastic race - just shows what can happen to completely change things around when there is an “outside influence”. In this case LeClerc going off.

I definitely think that there should be a reverse grid sort of thing. Was great to see those at the front who would not normally be there. Great opportunity and was good to see a different set of individuals get the awards.

McLaren definitely getting better - Ferrari so far out of it now - will be a while before they catch up again - depends on the new rules, so 2022 at least, as I am sure they have written next year off too. Shame that LeClerc will not get a chance for a while, but the other young guys will in the meantime - so great news all round.

It was certainly a novelty and I barely stopped laughing but it was a rubbish race as far as ranking the cars and drivers was concerned.

I’m pleased for Gasly, Sainz and Stroll and the other beneficiaries of course - chance (or meddling) had a role but they still had it to do and full credit to them. Also happy to see McLaren’s fortunes reviving.

But what on earth were the stewards/marshalls thinking of? Magnussen broke down in a relatively safe place where it looked as if they could have dragged his car right into the shelter of the barrier in about 5 minutes under flags or a virtual safety car. Instead they elected to push it down the pit lane. Coulthard called it “Hollywood”, meaning a contrived response to shake the race up.

The virtual safety car should have made the real one redundant by now.

The Hamilton haters must be disappointed at his interview. Instead of acting like a spoilt brat and sulking, he congratulated Gasly, said what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and he enjoyed his attempted recovery drive. Anybody who doesn’t accept that he’s one of the greats of the sport is truly deluded.

Mattia Binotto was putting a brave face on it but Ferrari must be despairing. The plan to hobble Mercedes seems to have backfired, with Ferrari suffering the most.

Even though I don’t really do the ‘fan’ thing, I too feel sad about the way things have gone for Williams. They more than any other team got me interested in F1, I hope the team really can survive and prosper again, that a fairer distribution of the huge F1 revenues makes it possible. There will probably be name change before too long and the name will join the ranks of e.g. Tyrell, Jordan, Sauber, Toleman and Minardi whose successors still grace the pit lane.

It’s becoming the story of corporate financial management now, unfortunately. The sport is still in there, for the moment. Not for nothing is it called the F1 circus.

All things pass. Before that happens I’m sure there will be another dominant team - Mercedes can only go backwards.

As I mentioned above , one of the reasons I adore motor sport is that lacks the nationalism of other sports . I wish Williams all the best , but I won’t give them any more allegiance than any other team . Ferrari has an ebullient fanbase, and always has had , but it is the team , not the country. Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Minardi(aka Torro Rosso /Alpha Tauri) Dallara , Tecno et al have never enjoyed significant support from Italians in the same way as Ferrari has enjoyed , even in its worst seasons- and this year is poor but 1973 was far worse.

The irony is that if you want to support British teams you may as well cheer on the majority of F1 teams - take your pick . Red Bull(previously Jaguar and Stewart) is as Austrian as fish and chips , Renault as cheddar cheese and Mercedes(previously
deep breath
Brawn , Honda , BAR and Tyrrell) is as German as bacon und eggs , as the cars are designed and built in the golden triangle - Milton Keynes, Oxford and Northampton .

Fabulous race , even if we have the absurdity of the safety car deployment for Magnussen’s parked Haas to thank for it . What betting that the fiendish Dr Marko now swaps Gasly and Albon ? Again

LH not having his best day in the office.
I hope this is not preying on his mind.

We just need him to equal then surpass MS
nothing much more in the meantime,

He did say he expected them to stop it, so I think not.

Fair point. Like school, being threatened with 3 of the belt and getting it were 2 matters.
At any rate, our brave boy now has only 2 points on his licence left thanks to today
so far
so he needs total focus as is his speciality not to get a 1 race ban over the next 4 races.
C’mon Lewis

Mercs bring it home again, Max did as much as he could with machinery he has. LH and Mercedes do something different again and pay the penalty, why didn’t they line up with the other teams for their practice starts. No point in getting angry about it and accusing people of bias, when it was you who pushed the boundaries and got yourself a penalty. Enough said, what about our other English driver in Fourth position in the championship. Lando is doing a brilliant job for McLaren, a team who could be a force to contend with next year when Ricardo joins them.

I’ve a feeling team orders may prevail for Lando unloess
he consistently out times & out drives Ricardo’s qualy times & grid positions which is not a task I’d want.
It will be character building perhaps, but I hope it does not make him cynical.
He’s so young, with a great potential career ahead but I think he will also learn much from Ricardo, and hopefully enhance his natural gifts with hard experience. I think, with the right machinery and the right teamwork, he is another future champion in the test-tube of F1.
I really admire his attitudes now. Lovely bloke all round
hopefully not too much.

Nice to see the Honey Badger back on the podium after such a long time and beating the team he’s going to next year ( was that a wise decision after all ). It was a better race to watch as there seemed to be a lot more racing between different teams going on. Well done to Perez to, showing how well he can do in a competitive car, will be another sad day if he leaves F1.
