Does anyone know if they sell the Fastback MX-5 Roof here in the UK?
And if so is it just a simple fit like the other hard top?
This is what I am talking about: http://www.auld66.dsl.pipex.com/Project/Fastback/Fast-Back-Conversion-006.jpg

Well there is a company in Somerset who make more or less the same thing for the Porsche Boxster, the end result looking much like a Cayman.
Perhaps they could be persuaded!
A guy in aberdeen shipped in a kit another is
Wow that’s a little bit expencive. You can get the car for that much.
A new factory hardtop is over £1400. $2200 = £1400, give or take.
hi, im currently in the process of making my own fastback roof for a mx5 i am based in the south of england, im in the foam prototyping stage if you want a price, i cannot garuntee (sorry spelling ?) this will the price i go onto the market with but it will be around 1500 1000 (gbp) mark, more depending on weather you want it painted properly, tinted windows etc stuff like that. it will be of the whole roof, not a piece that will stick on the end of an original hardtop. if you want i can take pictures on request and send them to you including sketches.
if anyone has any tips or ideas for me to include in my design please say
j.le
I’d love to see some pics

Make that three…
Since "j.le.fevre"asked, a fastback hardtop should have
Attractive design
Small, neat gaps, not crude, woddly fiberglass lines.
Use curved glass, not cheap, flat, easily scratched perspex. Flat doesn’t work on a MX5. Plus you need the ability to defrost. This will be a price killer.
Guarantee’d weatherproof.
Allow access to the boot area.
Industry standard concealed hinges if a liftback, not hinges taken off a shed.
Design doesn’t wreck the paint work on the rear wing tops.
Allows fitment of all the commonly available style bars and rollbars.
I’ve yet to be convinced that a removeable fastback hardtop can ever look good; none of those manufacturers of fastback tops for Spitfires, Midgets, 'Bs etc ever succeeded.
AK hardtop:
Emperor’s cloths time; scratched, smeared flat perspex, with crude rivets, is not a good look, no matter how much window tint is applied.
Apparently this:
Will end up looking like this Photoshop:
Only one retro-fitted conversion has worked, in my opinion, and that was the all aluminium conversion by Garage Vary, which used parts ordered from the factory. Not easily removeable of course.
Probably could get the styling aspect right, if constructed like this:
Aluminium over a wood buck. But thats not a £1500 top.
Great idea & good luck with the build!
I had a removable fastback hardtop on one of my Spitfires which looked great during the Winter months. Come summer i removed it & fitted the standard bootlid & soft top.
Please keep us up to date with pictures & progress!
This one belongs to Shadowchaser on MX5nutz & is quite local to you i believe!
