Fault codes 2006 NC

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2006 2.0 NC
  2. I’m based near: Amsterdam NL
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Fault codes and if I really need to address them immediately.

Greetings! I have a 2006 NC which is a JDM import. I got the car just over a year ago and ran the codes. There are 5 currently.

P0134 - 02 Sensor Circuit. No activity detected (bank 1 sensor 1)
P0130 - 02 Sensor Circuit (bank 1 sensor 1)
P0037 - H02S Heater Control Circuit Low (bank 1 sensor 2)

In the year I’ve owned it there are no engine issues at all. I have no engine lights or ABS lights on my dash. I do have a small brake issue when braking at freeway speeds however I’ve brought it to three shops, and even an mx5 specialist who have both told me there isn’t anything wrong with my brakes. I have passed all emissions and gotten my APK done twice now with zero issues either.

The only things I know which need to be fixed is my thermostat which just went out. I have a new one and am waiting for the t tmperature to go above freezing before I attempt to replace it.

My question is, is this okay to drive for the moment? I will address all the issues this summer in terms of maintenance but I absolutely do not have the money currently to replace two 02 sensors right now, nor do I have the money to bring it to a shop to be diagnosed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

First thing to do is to clear all the codes, drive for a while and then read them again.

It’s possible that what you are seeing are historic or transient codes, and may not indicate any current issues with the car.

I have done this, these codes are all recent.

I’d be tempered to replace the first o2 sensor, and hope that it clears the error on the second. If the first sensor has failed, then the mixture is likely to be all over the place. And then there’s me thinking … it’ll be £30. Wow… good job I was sitting down.
The other two codes possibly relate to abs sensor

They’re a lot more expensive than I thought. Where I am it’s about 150 euros. I’d rather be sure but more than likely one of them isn’t working properly.
