Faulty EGR Valve Code P0403

Hello,

Does anyone know if I can still drive my MX5 with this fault. Will a good run out do it some good?

Has anyone changed the stepper valve instead of the whole valve?

Thanks

If you had done a search (top right) you would have found https://mx5oc.co.uk/forum/yaf_postst100108_2007-mk3-2-0ltr–p0403-Egr-circuit-malfunction–what-I-ve-done-so-far.aspx

Thanks for the clever reply. If you had read my questions you will see they aren’t covered in that thread.

If you go by the letter of the law, you should not drive a car with a known faulty emmission system and the EGR valve reduces emmission under certain conditions as instructed by the ECU.

On the other hand if you are you asking will it damage my car to drive the car with this fault.

We believe that this is caused by a non working actuator on the EGR valve.

No it will not damage your engine using the car in this condition but a responsible user will want the car repaired as soon as possible.

Yes you can get a Ford actuator that will fit from a Mondeo.

No a good run will not repair a burned out electical actuator.

You asked if anyone had changed the stepper, it answers your question Thanks for your inaccurate reply I won’t bother in future

Aye, you’re right I wouldn’t bother. You don’t strike me as the helpful sort.

Hello,

I was thinking of blanking the faulty EGR and getting an engine re map as a solution, then no more re occurrence of the same problem.

Any thoughts welcome.

You would open yourself up to a large fine as you cannot by law modify the emmission systems on your car. If you are thinking about doing it, do not mention it on an open internet forum.
