- My model of MX-5 is: __ND RF
- I’m based near: __Preston
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Faulty driver’s window
My 2017 ND has just got a faulty driver’s window. It stopped about 3" from the bottom and won’t move up or down. When I close the door the window moves up as if it’s completing the seal. This suggests its not an electrical problem, but the winder mechanism. It did start slowing down a couple of days ago and I accidentally wound it down today!
Whoops! It’s covered about 25000 miles so far.
Has anyone come across this issue? I’m thinking it might need deep pockets.
Have you tried re-initializing the windows ?
NOTE :
-
The power window cannot be fully closed while the door is open.
-
Power window system initialization procedureIf the battery was disconnected during vehicle maintenance, or for other reasons (such as a switch continues to be operated after the window is open/closed), the window will not fully open automatically.
The power window auto function will only resume on the power window that has been reset.- Close the doors and the convertible top/roof.
- Switch the ignition ON.
- Make sure that the power window lock switch located on the driver’s door is not depressed.
- Press the switch and fully open the window.
- Pull up the switch to fully close the window and continue holding the switch for about 2 seconds after the window fully closed.
- Make sure that the power windows operate correctly using the door switches. After the system has been re-initialized, passenger window can be fully opened automatically using the master control switches. If the automatic power window operation does not operate normally while the doors or convertible top/retractable hardtop are opened/closed, reset it using the previous procedures.
This Window Regulator, Genuine Mazda, MX5 Mk4 & RF (mx5parts.co.uk) is a known issue.
Whip the door cards off and see what you find. There is a write up with pictures somewhere on here so a ‘search’ might prove fruitful.
Thanks guys. Will check out both options and see what transpires.
You need one of these. Common problem with mechanism rusting.
Update on window regulator. Tried MX5 Parts. No stock for RHS back order for 200+
Tried my local dealer (Preston) yesterday; fitted today! Great service. Had a routine service at the same time and got a health check
“Both rear hub carriers have play in bushes”.
Its advisory only and the rear can be a bit noisy over some of the s**t roads we currently have. Mainly when both rears hit potholes etc at the same time.
Worrying or wait and see.
Thanks again for advice on the window regulator.
There are plenty of useful posts on here regarding rear bushes, a quick search will be useful to you so you can see all the options available . The expensive Mazda route is now not the only available fix.
Thanks for that. Just ordered a set of 27AL Blue direct from Polybush.
