Fiat 124 Abarth

Spotted my first Fiat 124 on-the-road (well, a Frome car park actually !) the other day.  It was an Abarth in dark blue.  Quite nice from the side, but I still don’t like the front end !

Different strokes !

I see a red one parked outside a house near me sometimes. I quite like the retro look, but on the whole I prefer the more modern looking ND.

I love it and will be getting one in the New Year

Abarth Scorpione

The Fiat 124 is a much nicer designed car than the MX-5 ND

I personally prefer the Mazda to the Fiat but I wonder if there will be any difference in the depreciation ?

Personally I hate it see a few on my way home every day they just get more ugly each time, didn’t like the ND until the Fix it again tomorrow came out now I like it much more.

Just my view means nothing.

Good to see a wide difference in opinions - I personally prefer the looks of the Fiat over the ND, but then again I love the looks of the original (lhs drive only) Fiat 124 sport - to me much sexier than the Mk1 mx5.

Different strokes etc.

Back in the day, I actually preferred the style of the Alfa Romeo spider than the original Fiat 124.

In the 21st century though, although I admit the ND is very modern looking, being and old goat, I would much rather have the NC over the ND or the Fiat.

Takes all sorts !

I personally like the Abarth version, but it’s too expensive for what it is.

Hate to say it folks, but all we’re doing is repeating opinions we expressed on an earlier thread.

Correct and it’s still not changed,

Too true!  I still hate it from the basic Fiat version up to the overly expensive top of the range Arbarth version.  There we go, I’ve just repeated what I said in the other thread(s)!

But we’re all avoiding the elephant in the room.  The original Mk1 MX-5/Eunos is prettier than the rest of them put together.

Agreed!

, My wife asked me a few months back if I had a new car now what would it be, my reply was I cannot have one because they do not make the MK1 MX5 any more if they did it would be one of them with no hesitation and I also own one of the last NC3 cars but prefer my Eunos.

That is an interesting comment Warbird.

I wonder how many people feel the same - in that they cannot buy the new model of MX-5 that they really want, because it has been superseded buy a later version.  And coming at this from a different angle, I wonder how many buy the newest model because it is the only one available, and they want to stay ahead of the game deterioration-wise - rust etc.

When my wife’s 2011 NC company-car came up for replacement in late 2015, we were deliberating for ages over what to get next, because the MX-5 we liked was no longer in production, and neither of us were keen on the ND - its body design being such a radical departure from what we knew and loved.  This actually made our decision easier in the end - we could not have the 5 we wanted (and being a company-car, it had to be a new one), so we plumped for the VW Scirocco instead, and simply bought an MX-5 NC that we did like, to have as a second car.

And to illustrate my second point, there is a strong possibility that we may get a later-version MX-5 in a few years time, if our current one starts to show too many signs of ageing.

And just think if I could get a brand new MK1 I would know all the rust areas so could sort it before I even drove it, just have to put up with my 27 year old banger untill they relaunch the MK1.

Your 27-year-old banger looks fabulous Warbird - doesn’t look like you need worry too much about it not being a new one.

Have fun.
