A mate had one years back, We nicknamed it “Rusty”. I think that says it all really.

(Not to be confused with another friend’s Alfasud that was christened “Crusty Mc Rusty” or my Fiat 127 that they named “Crusty sh*tbox”.
)
Hi, I had an 1500 X19 from new back in 1982 (old Y reg). Loved it but build quality even from new was pretty poor tbh.
Targa roof a bit of pain to store in the front boot. Lovely revvy engine which red lined very easily! Handles on rails, bit like the 5.
As for getting one now, think they are very rare, and if you can get one , they tend to be basket cases which need a lot of work.
As for getting in and out, not sure - was a lot more supple myself in those days.
Not sure if this is of any help!!
I had 6 of them in the 80s & early 90s. A great little car, very under-rated.
On a quiet night you could hear it rusting.
It depends how big you are, much more room in a 5, fantastic to drive,
but a bit under-powered.
Oh and did i mention the RUST…

I’ve had Fiats in the past as well, they didn’t fare too well in our damp climate.
6 !!!
Wow, that’s some going - impressed!
Classic!
I used to be a glutton for punishment…

I had one in the 80s. It followed a lotus elan S3 SE I had, which was a hard act to follow. The little fiat was great fun, with really precise handling, but…rust…I’d not had a car previously or since that rusted like it!
Shame really, coz it really was a joy. I was having a bit of a reminisce at the classic car show this year around the X19 owners club stand, but even the best had tell tail signs of the battle with the tin worm, so I bet it would be a real quest to find a good one now.
Ever considered an MR2 mk1 instead? Very similiar package but IMHO better in almost every way.
what sort of 5 are you having trouble getting in and out of ? Some 5s are easier to access than others of course, you may just need a different one…
Sadly most of these have rusted away too. I’ve had two of them, and four sets of rear wings. Amazing cars though, I’d swap my MX5 for a rust free one, if such a thing existed. I’m not sure it’s any easier to climb in and out of though.
