I would like to raise the gearing on my MX5 mk2. This would be a help on long journeys. I have a 4.1 diff with the 5 speed gearbox. I would like to fit a 3.6 diff and recalibrate the speedo acordingly. Is there a garage in the UK that does this kind of work. If not, is there any information on this subject.
Don`t think that final drive ratio is available for an MX5, you could possibly do what one of my customers seems to have done by accident…
His Eunos automatic is very wierdly fitted with 185/65/15 tyres which filled the arches totally, in fact it had a 1970s Rolls-Royce look about the rubber/wheel ratio.
He claims a tyre supplier recommended the combination, of course this is a non-standard tyre sizing as his car should have really been on 195/50/15 on his BBS wheels. I very much doubt if his insurance company is aware of the non-standard size fitment.
His car must have rubbish acceleration but probably does really good mpg, just a thought…
Although I know nothing, possibly Performance5 in Pinner could take on that sort of work, assuming you could order the part from Mazda. It won’t be cheap, but I have no idea.
