Finally garaged!

Managed to finally clear out all the garage junk to make room for my MX-5. In time for winter so I’m one happy man. No more bird ■■■■ to clean off!

Your garage door frame looks much like mine; rotted at the bottom.

Yes, it needs filling and protection brushed on before summer’s end. Your door frame looks in better nick. I’m more concerned with my garage door rail on left side. The wall bracket holding the rail has partially collapsed so the door no longer opens and closes smoothly. It’s job after job here!

During COVID, the left frame rotted through and the door collapsed on the car. Due to lockdown at the time, I had to cobble a gash repair using a random bit of angle iron and screws. Ugly, but 4 years on. its still holding. But I’m not convinced my garage, even though it has a new roof, is all that dry.

I’m got same suspicions with my roof and walls. I’m going to water seal the walls and floor next in case of any damp.

I treated my mx-5 to a new garage door this year. The original door was over 60 years old and both door and frame had seen better days. Although it looks smart I don’t think it will last another 60 years, but then neither will I. The roof was re-felted last year so garage should be fine for a good few years. I wouldn’t want to keep a soft top outside in all weathers myself, but I know many do.
