Got this 1992 1.6 eunos a few months ago for free. 50k km on the clock and was laid up in a yard for about 12 years. Finally finished all the major work before I’m moving on to the engine mods over the next however long it’ll take, but will drive her on stock power for a while.
Work done:
All rust removed under body and in engine bay, painted with 2 coats of hammerite waxoyl. Including subframes and control arms, sway bars, etc. Rust, bye bye.
Superpro polybushes for suspension, sway bars and diff mounts.
Polybush engine mounts.
BC racing coilovers.
Tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints.
Torsen type 2 lsd from a 1.8 NB, with prop and drive shafts obviously.
6sp box from NB.
Bofi clutch good for 300nm.
Lightened flywheel.
Rear main seal. Front and rear gearbox seal. Shifter rebuild.
Pneumatic bonnet lifters.
Ebc yellow stuff pads and turbo slotted & drilled discs.
Caliper rebuild kit.
Hel braided lines with high temp brake fluid.
Nrg steering wheel quick release. Suede motamec steering wheel.
Pedal covers.
New alignment bolts from NB.
Custom aluminium coolant overflow tank.
Usual service stuff: oil, coolant, fuel filter, drive belt, air filter, HTC leads, spark plugs.
Engine bay: charcoal canister, washer bottle and coolant overflow tank deleted. Clutch and front left hardlines relocated. Mini wire tuck. Left the fuse boxes where they are cause ■■■■ taking a fender off to change a fuse or rewiring everything to the cabin.
Getting a full race spec roll cage fitted next week. And have a hydraulic handbrake to install soon too just for the fun of it.
Gonna leave the outside of it looking a bit shitty and sleeper style. Possible wheel upgrade. Will take my time with engine mods as I wanna do it right but end goal is 330 to 350bhp.
Great car to work on. Only really did small stuff on my beamers last few years but worked on motorbikes my whole life. The mx5 reminds me of an old 90s bike, real simple stuff and easy to work on.
Everything in so far including roll cage and hydro handbrake is €6400. Not too bad considering they’re going for that in Ireland now anyways.
Oh, and I did this all outside my moms house on the road. I don’t have a garage and neither does she. But she has some nosey neighbours that keep on eye on her for me. Weather is always an issue though.
Hope ya like my work and inspirde you for your build!
Cheers
