Hi everyone, I am looking at buying an NA, but I am after quite a specific spec and i’m starting to think that it doesn’t exist from factory, so I would really appreciate some help. I am looking for a BRG/NG 1.8 with a tan interior. Does anyone know if this exists from factory? Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you want a later model Eunos v-spec. There was a UK version in the early 90s but they were all 1.6 if memory serves.
The late UK spec 1.8iS could be ordered with a choice of 6 different leather finishes; technically not “factory”, as these were retrims done by the importer (higher quality leather than factory).
But otherwise, yes, 1993 or later Eunos Roadster
The challenge is that time has robbed these cars. Inevitably, if you find one, the interior will be torn up, the paint lacquer gone.
You best bet therefore is to import a car to order.
Carsensor is the Japanese version of Autotrader. These are not auction cars, but nevertheless, gives you an idea of the challenge. Right now, in the whole of Japan, there are less that 12 BRG V-spec 1.8 NAs for sale.
Note, not all 1.8 BRG Roadsters had tan interiors. V-Specs now command a considerable premium
The cost of this 1994 example, not 100% original (and with a little wear on the seat, bits of a 1996 dash, 1996 switch gear, 1996 rear badging) with 100k kms, is £12.5k in Japan. Add to that the cost of FOB/agent costs, shipping, duty, VAT, you are looking at about £20,000, even before putting a MOT on it.
There’s a nice 1.6 version at Beech Hill Garage, who mainly deal in MGs but sometimes other classics too. Might be worth considering.

The sweet spot for a Mk1 is (Eunos Roadster) late 91-93, followed by lated 95+ Roadsters. Having that 4.300 final drive does make all the difference.
