Hi all, I’m looking to book my first track day. There are lots of websites offering this, are any of them recommended or to be avoided?
Also apart from a helmet are there any other safety related things I should condsider prior to booking. I have just aquired a standard mk1 which passed mot last week with only 3 advisorys so it’s all in good order but I don’t want to get caught out and loose my money.
Knockhill used to do Hot Hatch days that were full of loonies, but the same track had other days by private organisations that were strict with good ettiquette
welcome to the fold, I would go for a single make trackday first off, there’s nothing worse than being overtaken by all and being frightened to death by a speeding beast, at least with single make you stand a chance of being on the money as your all the sameish.
If you can make Blyton 1-3, I would def go for it, it’s vey well organised by MOT/Jon, it’s all mx5s, ok you get some super tuned track cars, but most are normal cars/drivers, and if it is anything like last year it will be a wonderful occasion, I’ve only been on trackdays organised by MOT, which all have been very good, so cant comment on any other organisation, whatever you do enjoy it.

How about Llandow? Great for mx5s, not too far away from you, and reasonable price. There’s one on 1st June, there will be several mx5s there, including mine, plus half a dozen others from mx5nutz.
And another vote for MoT… my wife and I never taken a car on track, nor even CLOSE to a track before, so we booked one-2-one tuition with Nick Dougill at Blyton.
No other car on track, apart from an occassional Caterham, and great tuition how to handle the car (deliberate tail-end action), what to look out for, how to read the corner… pretty expensive but GREAT fun, and an additional bonus besides having our own car, we were also able to get into a Mk2 (turbo’d - bluudy good fun!) and Mk3. Mk1 is best tho’
We have enough confidence now to join other track days… mission accomplished.
