2 weeks ago we purchased a soul red RF (68 plate). It had been a 1 (older) lady owner with just 11k miles on. All 4 wheels had been refurbed already and other than the usual dealer soapy bucket prep it needed some love.
I had just used some Sonax coloured polish & wax on my son’s 20 year old 3 series with good results so ordered up the same in red for the ‘5’.
I used a mix of Sonax shampoo with a small amount of Bilt Hamber surfex as a pre-wash/foam, let it soak in and rinsed off. Repeated with a wash mitt. Underneath got the surfex treatment with plenty of dirty water rinsing off and leaving a relatively clean looking chassis & subframes. The intention is to get under the car fully before winter for a more in-depth scrub and treat with BH underbody wax etc.
The car was dried off. I didn’t clay bar as it didn’t really need it this time. Sonax red applied and buffed by hand 1 panel at at time. This managed to highlight that the roof section has seen some paintwork at some point. The body panels are all factory and have not been off, so perhaps something happened with the roof mech?
Once the sonar had a chance to cure, I applied Sonax BDS to seal.
All interior ‘leather’ surfaces were gliptone treated including the gearknob and wheel. That has left a nice mat finish.
So, all in a good result for not too much work.
