Fitting a genuine mazda thermostat

I want to replace the old aftermarket thermostat with a genuine mazda one my question is does the thermostat go in with the small bleed valve facing the engine or the radiator.

Here you go…

So small relief valve nearest engine.

Thanks for that I Google it but couldn’t find any thing

I knew which way round the thermostat goes because have a complete rebuilt spare in front of me but finding a google reference was a lot harder than expected.

From memory there are no instructions or other indicators as to which way this will fit. The fan sensor probe will always miss the meat of the main thermostat valve, so I can’t really see that it would make a difference if the orientation were changed - perhaps that is why there are no problems reported and nothing easily googled.

Sorry to hijack, but I’m wondering about thenthermostat on my 2005 NC 2,0l sports.

Reason I ask is that the temperature guage  needle never gets half way, even when it was idling fir 30 mins whilst being MOTed.

quite often, the needle is touching the tails of the C on the dial. It varies between that and say a quarter. Never half way. In fact it scared me as on my first run, I thought the coolant level had droppped that low it had affected the reading!

! Is this a common problem, is it the dial or the 'stat? Or even the wiring? Car seems to warm up and run fine, and heater seema ok
