Hi
I recently bought a Gleneagles Mk1.It came with original tonneau.
I cannot get cover to stay fitted.
I am slipping plastic U-channel, on back of cover, onto lip of cockpit and then securing cover onto front pop studs.
Rear of cover does not stay in place (U-channel plastic is hard and inflexible).
How am I supposed to fit cover - or it just that age hardening of the U-channel is stopping cover fitting the way it is meant to?
Regards
Bob
Use the press studs first, then snap it in to the channel - the current cold weather makes it a bit trickier
Thanks for super quick reply Ramsay.
I have tried that too - back of cover just kind of peels up. I think you are confirming for me that cover is past it’s use by date, though I will take on board your comment re temperature and try fitting cover when I have warmed it up indoors!
I am suprised you get any ‘top down’ practice at all in Scotland! ;))
Are you using the straps???
You had me looking Richard but yours must be a diferent tonneau design. The Gleneagles cover is secured with 9 pop studs and some velcro.
Thanks for trying to help!

I remember now, it’s that odd one you stretch over the cockpit brace.
The Gleneagles has a longer front than other 5s which goes over the brace bar. I fit mine from the rear first working round one side slotting into the black plastic groove. Then attach popper next to door, go round other side and do same which tightens cover, press into studs along boot cover (behind seats) then finally, easier with seats slightly forward, pull front part down and velco to carpet behind seats for a tight fit.
Hope that helps.
Thanks Valve
I will try your method with hopefully better results than my past attempts.

It works for me. Just make sure the rear is clipped into the slot as the extra front piece pulls down over the brace then tightens the cover as desired with velco to carpet.

If it has been stored badly the plastic section on the tonneau can close, try heating it then fit it into place
Yes, as you guessed plastic channel on cover has become compressed at each fold (not sure how to stop this as cover seems designed to fold with channel innermost, ie outside of tonneau to outside, and this inevitably puts pressure to close channel up).
I used a hot air gun to open up channel and then fitted to Valve’s instructions.
Altough cover channel still comes partly un-hooked in centre when driving at open road speed results are much, much bette.
Thanks everyone for your collective help

Once cover in plastic channel, just pull the front of the cover tighter behind the seats (velcro to carpet) so its really tight like a drum. That should secure it at speed.
I have now sold my Gleneagles and have some good spares if anyone is interested.
Roll Bar £95
Strut brace £30
Pair of Split folding type sunvisors (no need to move when putting roof up or down) £25
Gleneagles special tonneau cover (New) in champagne bag £85
Gleneagles tartan golfing caps x2 and key pouch (new in box) £35
Gleneagles seats (pair) £100
Bob,
On my 93 model I fold the Tonneau cover INSIDE OUT.
By that I mean working from each end, fold the two sections inwards, then fold those two in the centre. This places all of the plastic clips on the outside and not getting squashed.
I then roll it up and store it in the tunnel behind the spare wheel.
On that note, I have cut away a section of the parcel shelf tin ware, so the rolled up Tonnea can be slid into the tunnel by leaning the drivers backrest forwards.
Cheers
Jeff
Romsey. Australia.
Sounds pretty drastic. Surely its easier to get out of the car, and pop it into the boot in the normal way.
Not really,
On both side I now have a six inch square hole, trimmed with edge trim that is normally used on car door surrounds, and so have two useful storage areas for polish and polishing rags on the fuel tank side, and the tonneau on the drivers side.
With the spare wheel in the way that area was not useable as you know!
I can always bolt in another parcel shelf if the idea no longer appeals, or to restore it to original.
Cheers
Jeff
Hi Valve,
Just seen your above message. A bit late I know but have you got any Gleneagles bits n pieces left? Especially interested in rollbar and seats.

John,
I put all the bits into storage some time ago as i did not want to get involved in postings etc.
I still have the style/roll bar, seats and cover in bag.
What is your location.
Brian.
Hi Brian,
Many thanks for the reply.
I’m not too far away in sunny Orpington, Kent
Grateful for any pics on type of rollbar Presume tonneau still fits Ok without mods. and I can still leave the brace in place.
Also any pics on the seats. Mine are OK but a bit worn on the bottom part of seats, (not by me (!).
Thanks again
Best wishes
John
