Fitting Cam Cover

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 1989 NA
  2. I’m based near: Chesterfield
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Cam Cover Fitting

Hi,

I’ve had the cam cover off to fix oil leaks and do a bit of polishing.

I’ve acquired some Hylomar to dollop on the required spots to seal the gasket (I’ve been reading the how to on this forum) and I’m pretty much all set.

However, my cam cover has only 11 bolts. Not 14. What order do I tighten them in? Since apparently that is important.

Cheers,

Google is your friend, search MX-5 Mk1 cam cover torque sequence/settings.
Two finger tight on your bar on the final tighten sequence is all you need.
Genuine Mazda gasket recommended👍

I don’t have any Genuine Mazda Sealant.

But have used Hylomar on the E-Type, which is some form of pre-silicone gasket sealant.

Wouldn’t that do the trick?
I only have tomorrow to do it before I got back to the opposite end of the country for work, so no time to order any in.

I guess so if oil and heat resistant, it’s only for those spots needing a tight seal, tiny dobs of sealant so not over the whole gasket.
