Fitting detachable hardtop to 2007 NC roadster

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NC 2007
  2. I’m based near: _Croydon
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: fitting hardtop.

Hi, I’m looking for any tips on fitting a hardtop for the first time. In the past I have garaged the car over winter but due to loss of my other car I’m having to run it and keep it outside. It has been a bit prone to algae/mould forming when I have done this in the past, so have found a suitable hardtop, got the fixings needed off ebay or from mx5 parts and am just about to fit it.

Am looking for any tips on the process/sequence to follow, tools needed etc.

I have read the advice in the FAQ section, but this is some years old and relates to earlier models. Haynes manual doesn’t cover fitting the detachable top.

As far as I can see the quarter trim panels need to be swapped for the alternative ‘cut out’ panels and the frankenstein bolts have to be attached to the rear deck to accept the soft top rear latches. But is that all there is to it? In particular I’m not sure if seatbelts have to be disconnected to allow the trim panels to be swapped or if there are any other complications like this?

The hardtop is 150 miles away at my sons place, so I am travelling up to fit it, so any tips on necessary tools, fixings, things to watch out for would be appreciated, so I am as prepared as possible for the job.

Thanks in advance.
Mike

This help ?

Really easy job. The only tool you will need is one to fit the frankenstein bolts on the rear deck and the bolts for the bracket that goes on top of the B post. Make sure you fit the cable for the heated screen to the car (not the roof) before you put the roof on as it’s difficult to get to once the roof is on.

This is Mazdas instructions although I’m not sure why they say disconnect the battery.

thanks to both the reply authors, much appreciated.
