Hi everyone, any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
I have bought myself a pair of the familiar “Eurolites” headlight adaptors from halfords in anticipation of a euro tour i’m starting this weekend.
I have the original sealed headlight units installed.
Predictably, the instruction leaflet doesnt cover the mk1 mx5 let alone the eunos. the "generic instructions for cars not covered doesnt actually work for these lights as far as i can tell.
I’ve parked against a wall with the lights on, and if i’m honest, it looks to me like these lights wouldn;t dazzle road users when driving in europe anyway. On other cars i’ve noticed a raised area up and to the left in the beam pattern which is what i assume you need to blank out so as not to dazzle other drivers when driving on the right, but these lights dont seem to have this pattern?
Anyway, I’ve offered the stickers up to different parts of the lens, and found a place which blocks the “up and left” zone of the light pattern (what little there is). However i’m still a bit unconvinced as it looks nothing like anything in the leaflet. If you are looking at the lens towards the back of the car, the area that seems to work is just above and to the RIGHT and is denoted by a ridged pattern in the lens. it makes sense really, but the instructions show putting the sticker in the bottom left, which doesnt work.
If anyone can shed some light (see what i did there) on this for me, that would be fantastic.
I will put up a picture for the benefit of others when i get this sorted. I simply cannot believe it but i’ve been all over the web and not one page has the answer to how to fit these to an eunos??!! are they not required?
I can’t definitively answer the question, but the reason why some cars need them bottom left when instinct is that they’d need to go top right is because the light comes from the bulb and bounces off the reflector and out the front - the light that is going to the “wrong” side of the road is coming from the bottom left of the reflector (as you look at the front of the car)
Park about 6 foot from a wall in low light or dark so you can see the beam “kick up” on the wall. Move the deflector around, without sticking it, to find the best position to block the “kick up” .
I recently did this with Halfords deflectors on a DAF truck I drove to Budapest and Prague. Worked really well. Didn’t get a single flash from oncoming traffic.
Jack, that’s what i thought. In my case it seems to be as instinct would initially suggest, but i’m open to being corrected here.
marpar, thanks for you post, although the lights on your 2002 mx5 are probably not comparable really, as they are probably different technology (projectors?).
i understand i need to eliminate the kick-up to the near side, which my eunos candles dont seem to have anyway (but i know i have to do something)
Has anybody with an Eunos done this before? surely?
I think i’ve found the place to stick the beam-bender, but it’s hard to tell…
In the instruction sheet that came with them, it does show how to fit them to standard 7" round headlamps, you need to cut off the tail of the deflector and fit (looking at the lamp from the front) just below center-line and towards the LHS of the lens or drivers side of the car
Whatever you do, DON’T use black insulation tape. I tried this on our DAF truck and with the higher temperatures of eastern europe both the headlamps cracked!
