That’s this restoration project finished. But they say you are never finished a restoration on a vehicle!

Can anyone spot the missing parts? They are ordered but on back order from MX5 Parts.
Car is in storage until May so plenty time to apply finishing touches.
I will post further pictures once it I see outside and been given a wash and polish. I have left it covered in the wax overspray from the undersealing.

Not been road tested yet as it has only traveled less than 100 meters! Hopefully it will be ok for its MOT.

Door mirrors and maybe a rear fog light missing, unless you have converted one of the other lights?:+1:

Top of the class MIck! Door mirrors are on back order and I’ve got the brake lights wired onto the fog light switch, can’t understand why anyone would want to add a crappy fog light, and run a wire to it, when a little alteration at the brake switch can solve the problem.

They do it because it’s original, and legal…
Nice car

After 7 years off the road this early MX5 had its first tarmac jaunt today for a MOT, passing with no advisories!
Will wait until May before licensing.

Been an enjoyable project, thanks for all the help and support from this group. Cheers

Yay! :grinning: Congrats!

Hi Jim, we’ll done on what looks like an outstanding DIY restoration job. I notice that back in January you posted that you’d fitted a new Aircon condenser and drier. Can you tell us where you sourced those. I have been looking for those for ages without success and had to replace my bust unit with a used one which looks

Sorry - misplaced finger!
……looks like it’s on its last legs and took me a long time to find. Cheers, Bob Ironside

Hello Bob. I sourced the condenser and drier from Rock Auto located in the States. Prices were very reasonable. I think it was around £140 including delivery
However although the parts fitted onto the car the inlet and outlet pipe connections were different🤬.
I ended up using new 3/8 copper pipe from the drier making up a connection to fit it onto the existing 5/16 aluminium pipe ( which was corroded anyway). My pipe on the compressor side was also corroded so I used 1/2 copper and silver soldered on hydraulic hose ends, also. using hydraulic hose couplers to connect onto the flexible feed from the compressor. I can show you photos if you want.
I also bought the evaporator for fitting inside the car but it was completely different. It cost £9 so I think it ended up in the bin, and I refitted the original.
You could order the complete evaporator assembly for behind the dash but it would be for a left hand drive vehicle.
I still have not tested the assembly for leaks but will take it to our local refrigerator specialist once it’s on the road. I also changed all the o rings to be R123 gas compatible as these car used the older spec gas.
Hope this helps but feel free to ask any further questions

Cheers James
