Float in the half shafts with my Mk 3's diff

Help! I have float in the rear half shafts (and an oil leak on the drivers side) on the diff of my Mk 3. I’ve been told that I need another Diff. Anyone else come across this,? I’ve been told the cirq clips are in place. The car has done less than 60 thousand miles. If it needs another diff could someone recommend where I could get a recon diff from? Thanks All Stuart

They always have a little bit of “float”, are you sure that it’s not a normal amount and it’s just a leaking oil seal that replacement of will cure the leak? A leaking oil seals is more likely than a mechanical failure with the diff.

Thanks for getting back to me. The mechanic said there was 3 - 4 mill float on either half shaft. Is this normal. A new diff did sound a bit radical

I wouldn’t like to put a number on it but they will move in and out against the circlip by a few mm.
