Floflex polybushes

Okay so I’ve opted for polybushes and after some looking around with mixed results/opinions on brands, picked some from floflex on ebay. However all the crush tubes are aluminium, which my father and I find a bit unusual given that these are important bearings and such things are normally hardened steel. I have messaged the company but they haven’t responded yet. Has anyone had these, and is this a case of you get what you pay for or am I missing something here?

Had mine fitted for three seasons now and no probs. Make sure you use a good quality grease and lube up both the ali insert and the polybush outer as you fit them otherwise they squeek like mad!!!

Hi pele, thanks for the tip, makes sense since I know polys turn against their insert, rather than the whole thing turning like rubber ones do. I’ve heard they require lubing maybe 1-2 times per year, more if weather wet, do you bother with this at all? I’d like to put them on and forget about it. I’m
going to be using a good greas by unilube, dad’s used it in industry
all his life and if it can lube tons of heavy machinery, it can grease a
tiny jap car, lol.

Hi mate,

I used a pretty decent quality cycle grease that I use on my carbon bike, not because I thought it would be any good, but simply because it was all I could find in the garage!

Never had the bushes apart since fitting them (never want to either, flipping long, cold job in the middle of winter!) so no, I’ve not re-greased since and never felt the need.

Plus of course to take them apart agin will throw out your geometry (another top tip, get a 4-wheel alignment doen after putting everything back together, will lake ALL the difference).

Out of interest, how long did it take to do all wishbones on the car.  It’s something I’m looking into at the moment as some of my bushes have persished and need replacing,  Just assessing whether to just replace the 2 perished ones or do the whole car in one go.

Cheers.

I did it in two stages, rear first (I was learning as I went along and didn’t want to start messing about with track rods etc).

Middle of winter in a cold garage in Yorkshire; about two weekends each end and very numb fingers…

The flo-flex prices are cheap in relation to the more established brands but IMHO they’re no worse. I do ~3000 miles/year much of that on track at full tilt and no sign of any wear, knocking or loosening up.

Good luck Thumbs up

Oh I know about the 4 wheel alignment no prb I’m changing the alloys and shocks anyway so it will need doing.

JQ, if you’re changing two might as well do the lot because it’s a right faff and depending on the age/rustiness of your car the alignment bolts will seize/snap when you try to remove them. I’m replacing the full set.

Digidark.  If you’re getting the alignment done I can highly recommend www.blinkmotorsport.com, they’ve just done my alignment and were very thorough.  They also helped me out when I had a few issues at a trackday at Oulton Park last week.

Please help guys!

I was looking at buying Flo-Flex poly bushes but read bad things should I go for it and use a good marine type lube?!

Mine still going strong, they do need lubing otherwise the squeeking can drive you up the wall!!!

There’ll always be someone to spread doom and gloom, but not so many willing to give a good review but if I were replacing mine, I’d buy Flo-flex again…
