Footman James appears to give 50% mx5 owners club discount

Before renewing my MX5 owners club membership I thought i would see how much the membership discount it is worth with Footman James

Based on my 1992 mk1 import and a mixture of fact and fiction:

With out club membership: £269

With 1 year club membership : £134 (Literally the same quote… but going back and changing the membership answer)

Almost the same happened to me.

I got a quote on line with Footman James for about £198 from a comparison website. Other insurance companies were about £125 on the same comp website.

Didn’t think about contacting Footman James but instead I received a call from FJ and they said the computer hadn’t taken the club membership into account and promptly quoted me half of their online price. I added a few things and am fully covered for £114.

Well worth the £35 a year membership and not just for the insurance savings…

Such is the variance in insurance quotes; FJ’s quote for me this year on a Roadster randomly valued at £2500, 4k a year, with OC discount; £300. Random online quote from elsewhere; £180. 50 years old, garaged car, Bedfordshire, never any points, claim history; claim in 2010ish, Director of Research. Inertia has kept me with them. Was hoping to move the Jag over to them, but the best they could do on that was nearly £1000. Other quotes from elsewhere are in the region of £300, 8000 miles, no commuting/business use.

Inertia preventing me from leaving; it might be tricky to get proof of NCB off FJ.

They wouldn’t insure my Mk2 at all as it was parked on street in London when I enquired.

I guess they would now as I live in a rural location and have a driveway.

After last years shocker of a quote from Lancaster, they came out tops @ £136 this year for my NC.

A little late in replying but one thing also worth noting about FJ (I don’t know if the other insurance companies do this) is that if you have multiple cars on the one policy, and belong to their respective owners clubs (that have insurance discount schemes with FJ) the discounts stack on top of each other to lower your premium further.

Didn’t for me. FJ wouldn’t put both my MX5s on one policy, and only applied the OC discount to one. FJ were fairly hopeless when I tried to insure the Jag with them as a modern classic (it is 15 years old). Best they could do was a bit over £1000 (I have just renewed elswhere for £300). I doubt they will keep me next year, as normal online limited miles quotes, even on 0 NCB, are £100 less than their OC discounted rate. Inertia prevented me from switching this year.
