Like most I read the article in HTST and expected a reasonable quote from FJ, however my quote from SAGA was approximately 40% of FJ at around £150 like for like.
These insurance companies are all the same. They’ll rip you off as soon as look at you all the while behaving as if they’re doing you a favour.
I’ll never deal with REIS again. Or at least not while their staff display the “take it or leave it” attitude the woman I spoke to had. They wanted an additional 3 hundred quid over the already extortionate premium I paid them last year and when I queried this she claimed that they’d discovered that I’d been undercharged last year. As if they wouldn’t have come after me for it if that had been the case.
I think we need a total shake up of the motor insurance scam. I think we all ought to pay £250 road tax which should include the legal minimum third party insurance then it would be up to them to pursuade us to top it up to fully comp if we want to.
1st year insured with them Eunos Roadster 1966 £270 ish…no problems
2nd Year moved to Adrina Flux as we’re a bit cheaper
3rd year, FJ invited me back…gave em a call, decided they had insured me as an MX5 1st year and now it’s a Eunos wanted over £500 !! told them to forget it, not sure now i would have even been covered 1st year, i know for a fact i told them it was an import…i think the club should really ditch them as club insurer.
In my experience i have found having a Eunos DOES cause problems with insurance, of the few mainstream ones i called, LVE, Aviva etc, despite having other cars with them as soon as i mention import they won’t quote. If i had a choice again i would not buy an import tbh i’d stick to a UK mx5…
Ps…i know, we all know they are the same cars all built in Japan but seems insurers are steadfast.
I’m sure they made a mistake somewhere with me perhaps…
45 year old, 1.8 roadster, office worker, wf6 postcode, no accidents claims or convictions, ever !, car kept under carport, 6k miles max…£500 +
As i said 1 year prior, £270…no change of circumstances at all.
To be honest though as it took forever to answer the phone and the lady who finally did was hardly inspiring, plus when i did try to call them back just to re-check i couldnt get back through either…i thought stuff em…i’ll stay with Flux. Even so i’ll probably still try them next year.
£50 cheaper this year with RH Classic Insurance than from last years insurance from another company (can’t remember name off top of my head).
Also yearly mileage limit is 1,000 mile more than last year. Which is handy as it’s the wedding/honeymoon car and will be doing about 1,300 miles in 6 days at end of June!!!
I’ve gotten to a point in life where anything under £300 is chump change to me, and then the level of service becomes important. One man and His Dog outfits no longer interest me, neither, as I’ve found, do organisations that promise to reduce premiums by doing everything online (it doesn’t reduce premiums, and significantly worsens service quality). Time is valuable to me, so a quick online quote establishes a baseline. I’m not faffing about with some amateur business like RH to save a couple of quid.
TRY CHRISS KNOTT BEEN WITH THEM NOW FOR TWO YEARS .I LEFT FOOTMAN AND JAMES AFTER THE FIRST YEAR WHEN FINDING OUT THAT IF MY CAR WAS PARKED ON MY DRIVE AND NOT BEEN PUT AWAY IN THE GARAGE AS IS WERE IT IS NORMALLY KEPT IT WOULD NOT BE INSURED AGAINST DAMAGE FROM A THIRD PARTY.
MY COMPANY IM WITH NOW TOLD ME THAT. ITS ALL ABOUT THE SMALL PRINT I GUESS THAT SOME OF US DONT READ LIKE ME .
Having read all these negative points of view, i was concerned that the company were hopeless, but they must have many customers who are happy.
I am 53, own a MK 1 Eunos, with big alloys, style bar etc, engine unmodified, told them all this, no problem to insure on a limited 4000 miles a year deal
Put it on a agreed valuation with some pictures i took…sorted…then last May neighbour reversed her car into my front wing,FJ sorted it within two weeks , back on road, no questions asked…premium up by just £18 last december to £205.
then…this May, same wing pranged again in carpark by driver who did not stop,…repaired again no hassle…
I’ve been insured with FJ since I got the car in 2011. BBR with a few mods e.g. roll bar, lower springs, all declared. Just got a letter from FJ saying “Unfortunately due to changes in underwriting terms and conditions your insurer is unable to offer renewal terms based on your present insurance requirements”. I thought FJ was a broker - shouldn’t they be looking at other insurers too, or do they just not care about getting the business?
Edit: just got off the phone to them and they wanted to know the total value of the mods. Since most of them were done before I got the car, it was a bit difficult, but a boot of googling gave me some figures. I called them back, and they said the underwriters will agree to insure me (thanks, guys…) and they will send the renewal price. I’ll wait and see what it is
Just got the renewal from FJ having given them details of the mods and it’s less than last year! Still £20 more than RH Classics though (both including legal cover, and UK & European breakdown cover)
I just got the same letter, before the policy was due for renewal. I’ll be going elsewhere. My car is slightly modified (a roll bar - for safety and some different wheels which is very common to do). I’ll take my money elsewhere I reckon! Seems a bit daft to offer a car club discount and then decide not to cover a previously covered vehicle…
I got the letter about advising them of the mods before they would requote, so rang and went through them, and basically they had all the info anyway it sounded like, so not sure what that exercise is all about, seems a bit of a waste of everyone’s time. Got my renewal through now, about same value as last year I think, but Adrain Flux £100.00 less, but I am a bit torn as the “free” European breakdown and travel insurance AF stick on are actually worth a bit if you do head over the channel…
I had our supercharged R2-Ltd insured with FJ last year, obviously they wouldnt consider insuring the car with its` mods so we gave Greenlight Insurance a try after many recommendations.
With all mods declared (187bhp) and a 7,500mls yearly limit and trackday cover at only £35 per event (excepting Caste Combe) it came in at just £249 ( £131 cheaper than last years` cover with FJ.
