Footwell still leaking

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NC 2008
  2. I’m based near: _Beccles
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Driver footwell still leaking after using silicone on the wiper/scuttle board screw hole

Did you completely remove the white insert where the securing screw fits. Needs to be taken out, cleaned, silicon administered, replaced, more silicon spread around fitting and a dob where the screw will be inserted.

I had 2 attempts on my Sport Black with removing, cleaning and using silicone sealant, which still leaked, due to temperature change and I can only assume a small amount of flex in the metal after hard driving.
This caused the silicone to break the seal.

To get around this, I used Plumbers Mait from Screwfix, which is a non setting waterproof putty for pipework.
No problems for 3 years now!

SikaLastomer 710-310 ml Black Sika Lastomer 710, Removable Butyl Sealant, 300 ml, Black : Amazon.co.uk: Beauty
I use this sealant. Stays tackie and does not crack. Also used it to seal high level brake light. Can be removed if necessary.

Thankyou for your replies . This’ll be the third attempt so I’ll try the sealant suggested and hopefully that’ll sort it

Thankyou , I’d not put sealant in the screw hole either

You could take a look at my recent thread

might be worth sealing that area as well

When you sealed the grommets, did you lift/remove the black plastic panel infront of the windscreen on your car, not just the thumbnail size screw covers?

Your words make me think that you are not doing the job correctly. Do a search on YouTube to watch a video on how to do this job and verify you have sealed the grommets below the black plastic panel and not just sealed the screw hole under the small screw covers.

Apologies I wasn’t clear on the initial thread , I have taken the whole plastic trim off, removed the square plastic grommet bits and sealed it.
