Forum Logging-In Issue

Hi,

Logging in to the Forum used to take just a couple of mouse clicks for me. Since the New Year when I first open the club website the Home page is of a different format with provision to login to my account. Once I have logged in if I use the “Forum” Tab to take me to the Forum page it shows me as not logged in and I have to Login again on from the Forum page. Am I doing something incorrectly or is it a system issue? Hope you can help.

I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong, I have seen the behaviour you’re describing even before any changes were made to the website, usually though logging in to the forum the second time keeps you logged in.

I keep the forum in its own bookmark/tab and don’t go through the web front end each time and keep logged in.

I have the same

‘Double Log In’ Pages

Once to new Site and once again to the Forum

But so far I’m happy because I haven’t had the dreaded B***k Page yet that has plagued me for so long :crossed_fingers:  :+1: :grinning:

Hi Ian,

I am still having issues logging-in to the Forum. I have tried to do what you have suggested but I still have to login at the home page but when I go to the Forum I have to login again even though I have logged in at the home page. I have ticked the “Remember me” box but that does not seem to make any difference. I have tried to have the forum page (when logged in) as a favourite but it always reverts to the homepage when I initially login from there. It didn’t use to do this. It says that I am logged in at the home page but when I go to the forum I have login again It is getting a bit frustrating.

I’ve always assumed there was intentional separation between the website login (for membership etc) and the Forum.

So I see this login when visiting the membership area of the website, but I access the forum via a direct saved link/bookmark as Ian mentions above - https://forum.mx5oc.co.uk which takes me straight in here, with saved credentials.

Cheers,
Steve

I have tried this but it just does not “Remember Me”. When I log in it still takes me to the website home page I then pick the “Forum” tab but when I get there I am not logged in and I have to login again at the on the forum page.

I have to do the same ever since the New Year. No biggy but an easier way to get back on is always nice.

It sounds like the login cookie is not persisting from the point of authentication through to the forum and not remembering between sessions if that’s a choice you have made.

Why it only affects some people is the question, what combination of operating system, browser choice, cookie settings, security software etc is impacting is hard to know.

I feel your frustration at not being able to go directly to the Forum and having to log in twice but as stated above compared to having to do more complex steps to avoid getting a B***k Page [which I had to do every other time I logged in…involving restarting the whole laptop] the new Home Page and double log in has reduced my stress level enormously :crossed_fingers:

I also think Wardy5 makes an interesting point about intentional separation between membership and the Forum …but as a member this doesn’t apply to you

I stopped doing ‘Remember Me’ across the board to try and reduce folk Tracking me

I’m IT illiterate but wondered whether when you’ve finished on the Forum…do you have to Log Out…because if you do then clearly System remembers you in some form

And I am wondering whether the two log in pages [first the Site then the Forum] is the Club algorithm version of

‘Two Step Verification’ which we are all plagued with now where ever we go ?

Just a numpy thought from some one who knows nothing about IT

Hi Bullit.

Thanks for your reply. I have only had this issue since the New Year and as far as I know I have not changed anything in my set-up since New Year. I do not log-out when I leave the site but I will see if it makes any difference.

Cheers.

Also try clearing cookies on the browser you’re using. You could also try another browser on your device, to see if the login behaviour for the OC website & forum is the same :+1:

Many thanks Wardy. I think that I have got it working but I have had to create the following Cookie settings in my browser (Microsoft Edge)

I have had to add the MX-5 OC site to both the “Allow” cookies setting and the “Don’t Clear” setting. I don’t know why this should have changed but it seems to work now.

Hi ya

Ditto hadn’t changed a thing !

I’m also on Edge and always ‘allow cookies’ for sites I use often but when I was getting the ‘B**k Page’ had to clear everything every other day including ‘cookies’ and had to log onto the Club before doing any security checks which was scary

This was only happening with the Club

With the Club new site and double log in pages I can do all my security checks and put on my VPN :joy:

I’ve only NOT had issues SINCE we got the new Club Site :exploding_head:

Totally opposite to you :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Drove myself and IainF at Head Office nuts I can tell you trying to work out what had gone wrong

One theory was it was my Norton Security System …[Oh it’s not us !!..more chats/emails]

Go figure …all hunky dory with new site when suddenly on 14th Jan Norton flashed up a message in the middle of me posting about the Club Site not being the correct Club Site

Quick as my fingers could go and before the box disappeared I ticked ‘No It’s Good’

Fingers Crossed for both of us that our issues are sorted :crossed_fingers:

Final thought to your comment about sites being listed in ‘Favourites’

Some IT chap I spoke with advised that saving sites in Favourites was not the best practice because Sites CHANGE

So sometimes I can get to where I want to go via my saved Favourites and some times I have to re-locate the site via e.g. Google

And they say Modern Tech makes life easier for us

New “improved” Norton since the last few months is essentially now Avast.

If I had known this was going to happen when I renewed earlier last year with a couple of extra seats for a couple of new W11P machines I’d have looked elsewhere, now it keeps trying scary boilerplate lies to sell me on stuff I don’t need.
This is especially the case on those squeaky-clean local account W11Ps which hardly ever look at the internet and no way can they each have the same number of over a hundred tracking cookies!

Yep

We are talking about ‘Sites Changing’ …perfectly happy with the Old Norton page for checks etc but What !!!
When they introduced the New One

Oh it looks very Sophisticated but takes me so much longer

I’ve stuck with their Driver Updates and Ultimate that clears all the Unnecessary ****

But their Tracker system is ****

[Finally extra small freezer just arrived so I can freeze goods due to FAIL multi-tasking as another poster mentioned and managed to break bottom denture…Duh ]

First_rider_off

I’m LOGGING OUT of the Club Site now

Not sure if others experience the same, but I’ve not changed any settings and this issue seems to have cleared.
Well done to any moderator that sorted it

I no longer have the issue.
Tbh, I recreated my shortcut and thought that had fixed it for me :slightly_smiling_face:
