For the sake of just over €5 - I would get a Crit Air sticker before you go.
No chance of falling foul of the zones once you have one.
I had a 10 day drive in France last June incl Normandy.
Some tips here Road trip to France for 6 days late July
I thought they had decided to scrap crit air last year, don’t know for sure.
Looks like it’s still a requirement Véhicules à certifier | Véhicule immatriculé à l’étranger | Site officiel de la vignette Crit’Air
Obtained Crit Air sticker for my cars last year. Use the french govt web site, some companies in UK will do it for you at cost. Tip… do not stick it directly onto the screen. Cover both sides with clear sticky back plastic, the sticker is very thin and cannot be taken off if the screen needs replacing. We thought we would avoid areas covered by the scheme buy even the Caen ring road is within the area covering that city. One has to obtain the sticker before travel and there can be a delay in delivery. Advice was to keep/download application forms and proof of payment if travelling without it.
Forgot to mention. The sticker lasts for the life of the vehicle (it applied to motorcycles as well). It is not renewed each year.
Yep - just like the UK government - proposal was voted for - but nothing will happen until they get all three houses to agree.
And even if it is agreed - local councils can still decide to keep it !!!
Apply well in advance. I applied for a sticker for my car (not an MX-5, not that it makes any difference except it doesn’t have a catalytic convertor) at the beginning of September, prior to a road trip to Angouleme, near Bordeaux. It arrived in the post over a month later, over a week after I had completed the trip!
I was concerned that I might get pulled over in France for not displaying one, but we didn’t visit any major cities and nothing happened. None of the other four car owners I travelled with had even bothered to apply for a sticker.
Unless you want to drive right into a major city centre, I don’t think anyone will notice whether you car is registered or not. There is talk of the system being discontinued.
“But seriously”
You’ll need one if you drive anywhere near Ruen
Thanks for the advice… will get one before I travel, thanks again
Hi Nigel here I have being driving in France for the last 3 years for holidays in MX-5 06 didn’t even think of crit air thanks for letting me know applied tonight before I go in June already got email confirming, sticker might take longer
Only cost 4.75 pounds
Bear in mind that it references the registration number not the VIN so it will need to be removed if you have a private plate & transfer it to another vehicle.
