Hi there, been stupid and bumped a car in front of me…this results in some bumper/grille dammage and as it’s my own stupid fault; no insurance money… so, this leaves me with some questions… As you can see on the pics there are two bulges in the bumper (it’s an NC 2.5) and bellow the bulges the grille is damaged. So; is that bumper repairable? and at what (approx) cost would that be? If not…i might look for a later used NC (2.75?) bumper or a naw IL motorsport bumper (on sale now). If repairable (or later replacement NC bumper) i would opt for a Zunsport grille but if possible without the Zunsport badge. Due to reflections the pics are not that clear, hope it’s “obvious” enough .
I had this bumper below repaired earlier this year. It was a little mangled on the wheel arch edge and misshaped (a depression) on the curve where the scuffing can been seen. That corner cost £400 but I had the whole bumper painted with another crease taken out on the front which added to the repair costs.
Your bumper should repair ok I would think. Try mx5parts for the grill or Mazda dealer.
Thanks, 400 gbp including the paintwork seems ok but it seems that the chrome surround of the grille is expensive. If i would go this route i would opt for that Zunsport grille…I might have found a used FL2 bumper for 190 eur (which i prefer) but have to find out about the grille (should cost 60 eur new, no surround needed) and the foglights with their surround…eventualy that IL motorsport bumper, not sure…maybe a bit to “tuning” for me.
This is the IL motorsport bumper…any toughts?
It’s not bad, the design was inspired by the MPS concept Mk2 from 2001.
I do think it’s a good opportunity to make the switch to the NC3 bumper if you can find a complete one.
Pretty easy repair if your north west and local bring it in to our garage we’ll get you a quote done.
Thx all, …WaksI2; nice to help me out but…as i’m a Belgian fiver, it’s a bit far. I would appreciate a long distance quote without the grille/paintjob, just the repair (approx off course) just to have an idea of what it might cost me.
I would guess that pricing I gave would be quite different in Belgium, could be wrong though?
Use heat to nudge it back into mould form and cold water straight away to fix the memory again, the grill is for the bin.
M-m
I actually did this with my front bumper and it worked pretty well. In another area though plus the damage shown above creases in the plastic just wouldn’t come out. It needed paint anyway so I let a body shop take care of it.
If the bumper has visible bulges and the grille is damaged, it’s advisable to consult with a professional body shop for a proper assessment. They can determine if the bumper is repairable and provide an estimate for the cost. If it’s not feasible to repair, considering a used NC 2.75 bumper or a new IL Motorsport bumper might be a good alternative. You can also inquire about customizing a Zunsport grille without the badge when purchasing it.
Hi
Don’t know who you are but happy to see as new visitor that you are reading loads of posts…WOW !
Appreciate all the likes you’ve given me
Thx all, as i need new paint as well i think i will choose the body-repair-shop route and it’s almost sure that i will keep the NC 2 look (the search for a NC 3 bumper WITH the needed parts ; grille, foglights, surround and lower surround parts ) is to complicated and beside that even if i prefer the NC3 front-look i think it might be (value-wise) better to keep it original.
Bullit2005; not sure but i think you’re confusing me with someone else…as i’m (a Belgian five enthusiast) not such a thumbs up/down fan and rarely participate on these “judgements”, not that you don’t deserve these likes he far from it.
Hi, I’ll get an hour breakdown for you in the morning then you can check hourly rates local to you?
Sounds great Waksi2 that would give me an indication to talk about repair at the bodyshop.
Well, i went for my first visit to a bodyshop and the result is pretty expensive ; 850 eur without VAT and without removing, re-fitting the bumper . The offer does include the painting of the plastic fog-lights surrounds… Also surprising that the “heating” of the damaged parts has not been mentioned, just regular sanding and painting. It is a well known, praiced body shop but at this price i’m tempted to try elsewhere…
Job done, it costed me 990 eur including the painting of the fog-lights surrounds, refreshing (and tinting) of my headlights and adding the front spoiler. Beside that i provided them with a matt-black badge and a Zunsport -grille. I’m pleased with the result but have to get used to the fronsplitter/spoiler …it’s not 100% what i expected.
It looks wonderful!
thanks, as i was not sure about the spoiler (a tiny bit to “tuning” maybe?..),your reaction tells me it’s not that bad after all.
