- My model of MX-5 is: 2014 mk 3.75

- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: front brake discs n pads__
Hi all.
I need to change my almost new front discs and pads as I think they’re causing a brake shudder when braking fairly hard.
On inspection I can see a ghost outline of the brake pad on the disc and it has eaten into the disc surface slightly. So I presume the pads fitted last year will be naff too?.
The discs are Pagid and were fitted new in mid 2021…only covered approx 5k.
After recommendations for trouble free discs and pads at a reasonable price
Cheers👍
I have had a similar problem because I failed to check for the culprit. I came to the conclusion that the pads and discs were not a fault, how could they be if new?,. The culprit was the sticking callipers. To check for this go for a drive for a few miles and then feel the temperature of the cars discs with your fingers. The discs should be a very similar temperature all-round. If one is much hotter then you have a sticking caliper.
I would get some of the modern ‘sand paper’, remove the pads and put them face down and ‘clean them up’. Then give the discs the once over using the sand paper and a sanding block. A quick wipe down with brake cleaner and see how you go.
Low tech. but cheap and it might just get rid of any contamination that may be causing the issue.
While your at it give everything a clean and pop the pistons in and out a few millimetres several times to ‘free’ them up.
But first check for the sticking calliper as outlined above, don’t burn yourself though. One of the cheap temperature guns are a good investment for this job.

Yeah I get that but I have replaced the sticking caliper and fitted new pads at same time last year. Only done a few k miles since.
When I purchased the car in Nov 2021 it had not long ago had new front discs fitted. If they had fitted the old pads onto new discs isn’t it possible that this has caused this damage?
Both front brakes run at the same temperature and it is fine tbh. No signs at all of sticking brakes/calipers. I had them all apart late last summer. Cleaned and greased everything.
If that was the case then yes.
I would try the sand paper first before spending big money on new pads and discs, but there again I am a Yorkshire man!!

Have you got these correctly fitted?
Hi Mick…yes as far as I’m aware.
