Front Drivers Sticking Caliper NC - What to buy?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NC 2006
  2. I’m based near: Bristol
  3. I’m looking for recommendations on: front drivers brake caliper replacement options.

My son’s 2006 NC has had the drivers caliper worked on twice now and after a period of time it starts to grab / stick leaving a very HOT front wheel. We’re looking at replacing the caliper, BUT, neither of us has a strong car mech background and when we looked at various websites there is a wide variation in price. MX5parts do an aftermarket option (which is significantly cheaper than the OME option) and we’ve also been pointed to others (brake parts.co.uk, autolinkMX5). Can I have some views on others who have replaced the caliper, should we do both fronts or is it mainly the drivers side that acts up? Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can just do the sticky caliper but, if you also change the pads, you should do the pads on bith sides. They generally come in sets of 4 anyway.

A recon/exchange caliper is the usual best option.

Hi Kevin,

I had this happen to me in 2021.
Hopefully you will get an idea from what I went through in the thread below.

Hi
My 2007 model developed the same fault back in 2018. Replaced to osf caliper with one obtained from Brakes International as that was cheapest price and no return of the old caliper required. All been fine since but I do make a point now of stripping brakes down every spring and applying fresh grease to the slide pins. Important to use moly grease and not copper grease as copper grease will cause the rubber sleeve on one of the slide pins to swell and jam.

Just replaced both front calipers on my 2012 NC with replacements from MX5 Parts. £150 for the pair delivered within 48 hours. Very happy with results.
