Front Number Plate removal Mk3

Hi

 

Does anyone know how to remove the front number plate on a Mk3 looking at it can’t get to the nuts behide?

Is it just held on with double sided tape?

No there are bolted on

I think you mean the plinth that the plate sits on?

 

I am pretty sure its a bumper off job as its attached from behind the grill

The bolts hold the plate mount on not the plate… Unless some berk has boiled through the lot in which case you will see bolt heads on the plate it’s self.

if it’s double side tape as it usually is get something like a length of fishing line and put behind the end of the plate and saw it off…

The number plate is just screwed on into the plinth (well mine is NC1), the plinth is bolted on and a bit harder to remove. I replaced my plates in a matter of minutes. But like others have said someone could have done something different in the past.

Yes there are bolts heads on the plate, I had them fitted at a garge last time and it only took 10mins so I don’t think they removed the front bumper.

 

I’m wondering if it has captive nuts behide that would explain getting them changed so quick

Mine were standard number plate self tappers

Or, get the number plate nice and hot using a hairdryer (one is supplied with the car) which softens the adhesive, and carefully peel off the number plate .
