Front pads spring clips question

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2010 NC Miyako 2.0
  2. I’m based near: East Yorkshire
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: front brake pad fitting

MOT due so I decided to fit new front pads. The discs are fine.
When I removed the offside caliper, I noticed that the inside pad (piston side) had a spring clip fitted on both tabs on the pad (top and bottom). This was the same on the nearside caliper. There were only 2 replacement clips with the new pads. After some research, some diagrams show 2 clips per pad , some show only one clip on the lower tab. Which is correct?
There are no wear indicator wires fitted to the pads.

Last time I replaced the front pads on the NC I got a full set of 8 clips, 4 per side. Mine were Ferodo, purchased as a front set of pads + discs.
Presuming you only had 2 clips per side fitted on the car when stripping the brakes?

Perhaps some confusion here. There are 2 clips fitted to each side of the caliper carrier, a total of 4 per wheel (8 for both front brakes). The clips to which I refer are smaller and fit to the lugs on the pads themselves rather than the carrier. They locate in the clips that fit in the recesses of the caliper carrier (piston side pad only) I have seen diagrams showing both 2 clips fitted to the pad and just one only, hence my confusion

It is the two small clips shown directly above and below the pad lugs to which I refer.

Ahh, the wear indicators, only one required per side I guess, that’s all I’ve seen fitted on mine.:+1:

Ah! Is that what they are? When I dismantled my front brakes there were 2 fitted. I think they are the original pads because we have owned it since 2014 and it had only covered 15,000 miles when we bought it.

Correct as Mick.
Just the one on the inner pad. :+1:
