Fuel pump NC. Remove/replace

First thing, you will working in close proximity to a lot of fuel. Disconnect the battery and ground yourself on bare metal every time you work on this.
This item is under tension and is held in place with eight small screws. Remove them diagonally and hold the metal ring down when finally removing them.
It doesn’t just lift out. It’s sprung to hold it in place in the tank, that means you need to get hold of the bottom section of it and lift it up as the top section jams against the top brace. Use gloves and make sure the delicate fuel sender doesn’t snag.

Replacement has a nice subtlety. The rubber gasket has not only those obvious pins that locate the top of the pump but also small indentations on the underside. These have dedicated holes in the chassis.

So, when you are putting all back together, locate the gasket in the chassis before positioning the top of the pump.

Once that’s sorted I found it useful to get a piece of wood to keep the pump jammed/ located whilst I lined up the holding ring.

Fortunately all the tiny screws weren’t seized/rusted but this has been a problem with some cars so worth thinking about.

It was pretty naff working over a bucket full of petrol and I hope I don’t have to go there again.
This will seem a bit gobbledegook to someone who hasn’t been there. It hopefully will be useful to someone who actually has to do this job
