Galaxy Grey Mk3

Hello!

Since I’ve already introduced myself, I guess it’s time to introduce my car. First, a small back story…

Basically, ever since 2011/12, I lusted after an MX-5 NA, purely based on someones specific car. I actually really wanted one as a first car, but insurance put an end to that. Unfortunately, I cannot find a photo of the specific car, but it was sort of like this:

Instead, I got a Ford Ka as my first car, because it was nice and cheap on insurance, and cheap to maintain. It was also surprisingly fun to drive! To be honest it was a great car, and one of the best examples of a Ford Ka mk1 I’ve ever seen. Eventually, after owning the Ka for a year, I saved enough money for a new car. Of course, I considered the NA, but after looking around and being in the knowledge that this car would have to be my daily driver so I’d have to rely on it a lot, I figured the NA probably wasn’t such a wise call. My friend has owned an NC since January 2014 and I loved the way it looked, so I focused my attention on the NC. After looking more and more into NCs, I fell in love! I think they look fantastic and they’re safer and with a few more toys as well. So I began by looking on AutoTrader for an NC, firstly only looking at PRHTs. There was a perfect one, high spec, low miles and PRHT - but it was 250 miles away. Which I didn’t really feel comfortable with, in case I got there and it wasn’t what I was after. So, after a lot of looking around, I found a gorgeous 1.8 Galaxy Grey one far closer to home, and proceeded to book a viewing. Quite a big step really. I was actually seriously looking at an MX-5. Here’s a pic of the car after I’d test driven it:

It made a big impression, I’d never driven anything like the MX-5 at all, nor been in a car like it before really. I fell in love, so much so I put a deposit down there and then. The next day, I returned with my father and he inspected it and then I bought it. Literally the best day of my life. I was like this for the whole week after I purchased it:

Here she is on a lovely road trip:

And then I purchased an RHT… and fitted it temporarily:

And here she is today:

Anyway I’m sure I’ve bored you all enough now so for now, peace out.

My first proper car was a Galaxy Grey Mk3 as well, and I had the RHT too, for a grey car it was just beautiful, never stopped smiling with that car and only traded it for a newer NC3 with PRHT.

The other twenty five or so cars I have owned could not hold a candle to the MX-5, so I think you are lucky to have missed out on a lot of dross and got into the Mazda so soon. Looks great!

Well, I’ve had my MX-5 for about a year now. And wow, what a car. I still drive it and am amazed how good it is. It certainly hasn’t worn off the thrill at all.

Went to the rally on Sunday… was the first time I’ve ever done a long distance drive in the MX-5. It was perfectly comfortable, no complaints at all. Of course, a photo from the rally…

Although, I sat in the 25th Anniversary at the rally, so I think I know what I have my sights set on now… (maybe a Sport Graphite though)

Sorry wrong section!

best colour
looks very nice.

I find that long distance driving in my mx5 2006 NC PRHT is not an issue - in fact quite enjoy it - I’ve had mine 5 & half years bought it second hand - one owner 13k miles it now has 91k miles and has been to Germany twice and as far south as northern Italy. We are planning a run to Lake Garda for 2017 so hopefully the '5 will be still okay for that!

It has to be said that my MX5 is the best car I’ve owned and is used as my daily driver.

I see you’ve upgraded the wheels since buying it. That’s something I’d like to do to mine as those sports wheels look far better in my opinion.

LOVE mine

Another very happy Galaxy Grey NC owner here too. No pictures from me at the moment though as she’s filthy!

It was surprisingly good, especially for a soft top! Not too loud, could hear the radio and have a conversation. I’ll have to plan longer trips with it in future! I bet its fun on the roads in Northern Italy…

Yeah, I love the way they look on the 17"s so I had to get some. Fills the arches a lot better too.

I have to say I was eyeing yours up at the rally! Love the wheels and tinted lights. What did you use to tint them?

Galaxy Grey is definitely the best colour  mine could do with a wash too, but they keep salting the roads…

Nice cars - GG looks great
