Great question & not that know of, but I stand to be corrected. There is a list of MX5 specialists in the back of Magazine, but yours is a great idea to have a thread of general garages that members use. I have no Specialists local to me in South Lincolnshire, so even though I generally do any mechanical work myself, I do have a trusted local garage with great experience of Old Cars & will do anything I request
I suspect that the Club’s lawyers would need to OK the suggestion.
The club could be potentially be held liable should anybody post libellous statements about a particular garage. Also, the forum is open to everybody (not just Club Members) so it would have the potential to be used maliciously by anybody who had a - real or imagined - grievance with a garage.
I’m not suggesting anything different from what’s already posted elsewhere. Who do I reach out to ask ‘officially’, forum-wise? Maybe this could be in a section in the members only area so it’s not public on the internet? Would add more value to being a member too.
it’s come up plenty of times before over the years, the Club formally can’t really endorse such things, personal recommendations are of course fine, and that’s what the Club is for. Go to a meet, ask opinions on here, but I doubt a formal list of recommendations is ever going to be possible.
Post in the ask the chairman bit of you need a more formal response.
Hmm. I don’t see this as a formal list. More a central place to collect opinions we see posted anyway elsewhere. Like mini-reviews you might see on any website selling products or hotel bookings For example I see this on a large UK Audi forum I use, and just thought it was missing (if possible) on this forum.
When I was a member of the TR Register they used to allow recommendations from members for garages they had used but they didn’t allow negative comments which to me meant you had a very one sided view of the garages, you could have one good report and twenty bad reports but you would only see the good one.
If a list was made would you need to search right through it to find a garage in your local area or would it need to be divided into regions?
Iam now on my 3rd MX5 and have always used local dealer Rockingham Cars in Corby Northamptonshire and they have always been excellent. And yes I did have a CX5 to be its big brother as well.
Excuse a newby comment, but while I see the potential for liability in the forum allowing free comments, surely a list of garages that welcome MX-5s is not contentious? Not allowing comments, but complimented by facts, like if they can MOT, how long they have accepted MX-5s, if they do all versions and if they specialise in MX-5s only, or Mazda’s or are generalists. Finally, if someone was to volunteer to make the effort, the Google and Trustpilot rating could be shown along with date. None of that would open the forum up for anything as it is all in the public domain, brought together in one place.
One last thought: It could ask garages not listed to apply for inclusion with their own 50-word promotional message, such as offering club members a discount.
