Garmin Dash 55 - hardwiring

Hi,

Trying to hardwire a Garmin 55 in to my MX - assumed that connecting it to the fuse box would be the best method - I’ve run the cable down to the fuse box but can’t find much help on how to connect it up. The Garmin has 3 wires a the end of the cable - battery (for a constant power source), accesory (for a switched power source) and earth.

I’ve brought a piggyback fuse but guess that I’ll need two of these, one for constant & one for switched? I’ve got a multimeter (& someone who even knows how to use it!) so that I hook up to the right fuses but struggling to find any video guides or otherwise to confirm or refute my assumption!

Car is a 2010 2L SE.

Cheers!

I’m no electrical whizz but connecting as in the below link could be ok. Yes I know it’s to wire DRL’s but they are looking for a live via the ignition, exactly how I think a dash cam would be.

I have the same dashcam and thought that the hardwire kit was the way to go after finding out it won’t power itself from a USB feed longer than the supplied, very short, cable; computer connection only. Couldn’t get the hardwire kit to work so it is back with Garmin and the dashcam is now powered via the supplied ‘cigar lighter’ lead off a piggyback fuse in the AUX PWR (2) socket in the passenger footwell fuse box and an inline female socket. Not ideal, but works. It’s a work in progress…

My hardwire kit was possibly non-functional, so if you piggyback connect the ‘permanent feed’ to the ILLUMI fuse (5) it may work; I’m assuming that it’s a live feed as the interior lights come on when a door is opened.
