Gear knob change on mk3, 3.75?

  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __

Morning

I have decided to change my gear shift on my car and was just wondering if anyone has done this on theirs. The videos say it’s a simple screw off with the old one. Just need to confirm that before I start yanking on it!

Cheers

Yes
I’ve swapped mine for a spun aluminium Voodoo Magnum.
Love it

They do just screw off, normal right handed thread.

Aye, even a numpty like me managed it in two minutes! Just make sure you screw the new one on tight enough- mine was rattling and I couldn’t figure out what the noise was at first :see_no_evil: Love the new one though- soooo tactile!

Cheers. New one hasn’t arrived yet but tried to unscrew the old one and thought that’s tight! Gym for me!

Wouldn’t have thought it should be that well stuck, it’s just a normal thread

Someone told me you have to be careful with the thread. Be awkward if you snapped it. Knowing my luck I’ll go from weak to having the whole lot in my hand!

Aye, be careful with those forearm curls

Your car look very similar to mine. Correct or not? Brown leather, black venture!

Yep, 2013 ST  Am I right in thinking you’ve got the HT version?

Yes and also 2013. If you dont mind send me a photo?

Freshly shampoo’d, waxed and vacc’d!

Like looking inside my car!

Hehe, they’re beauts.
Have changed the head unit, gear stick and updated the instrument cluster but otherwise is as was

I like your badge above your side indicators!

Oddly enough, I actually added some chrome trim around the side repeaters after I finished clean- think they look really smart! Can’t understand why they didn’t come that way as standard! How come yours didn’t come with the badge then?

May have been de-badged to make it really black!!!

Hmm, maybe but seems a bit sad

TheLatheMan makes these, about £20 delivered.

Do the next owner a favour and stick the original one in the glovebox if it’s still in decent condition. Knobs are a very personal choice The thing I inherited with my car was to my personal taste foul ( although other tastes are perfectly valid - this is not a taste contest) and the new “oem” one I got from MX5 parts isn’t what would have come with my car. I’ve got to buy someone else’s second hand knob off eBay now.

It’s touching how the opportunities for double entendres are not being taken.
