I removed the gear lever gaiter surround and wrapped it in 3M Di-Noc Carbon Fibre Vinyl Wrap CA-421 purchased from eBay for a fiver… 

I think it’s a vast improvement on the huge satin shiny surround

How did you take the gear lever surround off?

There are 4 clips holding the surround in, the w/shop manual tells you to mask up the surrounding area around it and prise the surround out around the edges…CAREFULLY…

I just removed the gear knob then grabbed the surround near the gaiter and very gently pulled it upwards, it was a bit tough but nothing broke…

I really love that mod you’ve made to the gear surround.
Simple and effective.

Quick question to clarify post above…

when you say “workshop manual” I’m guessing you mean a Haynes manual ?
