Hello,
Just ordered the Gear Shift boots package from MX5 parts (Upper and Lower) as 1st/2nd and 3rd gear are very notchy changes now.
I have watched a video and I see people recommend greasing the nylon cup etc.
Any idea of what Grease I should use?
I will use Gearbox oil 75w-90 (Semi Synthetic for the Turret oil) 90ml.
Many thanks for your help,
Rob
I used to use Shell Alvania, a good GP grease
Not sure that grease is available in the UK.
Would a silicon or lithium grease be OK?
Shell Alvania is probably the most common Shell grease anywhere in the world, I used to buy it in 40kilo tubs back in the day when I was in the engineering game in UK. For that application any ordinary grease is fine. There is practically no load on the components. Silicon or lithium would be fine.
Hello Geoff,
Thanks for the info I will get fitting it.
Rob
Nice easy job, took 40minutes and has made 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd a bit smoother. Also quieter inside the cabin as both my shift boots were torn to bits.
If anyone living near to Maidstone in Kent wants some help fitting these just give me a shout
as I have loads of gearbox oil left over.
The video I followed is this one:
