Genuine Mazda Outdoor Car Cover & Storage Bag Query Please?

Hello All,

I picked up the MX-5 NC outdoor cover from Mazda today.

Silver colour with Mazda logo on bonnet and clear window for reg. plate, pockets for door mirrors etc.

Got it used so no instructions - so can I just ask anyone who has one -

  1. Why is the storage bag sewn into the outdoor cover ? are you supposed to fit it with the bag and zip dangling inside the cover (likely to cause scratches) or are you supposed to separate the two parts?

  1. Can’t see any fixings for a strap to run under the car from one side to the other to stop wind lift - just draw string round the bottom edge to pull it tight - is anything missing?

Many Thanks from Mark

It’s all quite straightforward, when you know how. Start by laying the zipped up bag on the windscreen and fix the rubber sucker onto the screen behind the rear view mirror. Next unzip the bag and roll the cover out, I put the little pouches onto the door mirrors next and then pull the front half of the cover over the bonnet and fit it below the front bumper. Do a similar thing with the rear half but remove the aerial and open the boot then shut the black strap thing with a tube sown into it in the boot. Finish fitting the cover to the back of the car finishing by doing up the zip on the nsr corner and do up the clip after tightening the cord which runs around the lowest edge of the cover.

The only time I’ve had any issues with the paint being marked is when I haven’t done up the cord tight enough when it’s very wind.

May sound complicated but it makes sens, I hope, when you do it the way I suggest.

Ok Yes

I did see a sucker on the bag.

Is there an instruction sheet that comes with it to show that bit?

I will have another go at it later.

Not sure that mine has the black strap thing with a tube that goes into boot you mention - can you post an image of that ??

Why is Mazda stuff so fiddly  (see post ref. carpet mat clips)

Update from Mazda customer service -

Megan Bradley has kindly supplied me with a pdf document showing how to fit the factory indoor and outdoor car covers to MX-5.

The cover does indeed stay stitched to the bag at all times.

Thanks everyone and if anyone needs the instructions just email me at pertonpc@talktalk.net
