Getting a new key cut

Hi all,

The key for my MK1 is in serious danger of snapping, so I really should get myself a replacement. The lovely people at EMG Cambridge said they’d cut me a new key and test it works if I bring them a blank. Problem now is I don’t know where to get a blank! This is just the normal key, with a seperate imobiliser fob. Any suggestions in Cambridge (or mail order)?

Thanks in advance …

try dandycars.com  last time i checked it was £15.00,

I got a new key cut at Timpsons for £8 - they carry blanks in stock.  Just make sure the length of the key is the same - if they cut a ‘short’ key, it will only work in the doors and not the ignition.

eBay??

EMG should be able to supply the blank as well as cut it… Have they said they can’t?

+1 for Timpsons - walk in and get one. Sorted

Hi Robbie, they basically said “bring us a blank and we’ll cut it” - I guess I didn’t ask if they could supply a blank too! If they can, that’s even easier …

+another for Timpsons. I had two cut, £8 each. The plastic part is a good copy of the Mazda original.

The boot lock seems to be the one that puts the greatest strain on the rather fragile key, so now I always press down on the bootlid as I turn the key to relieve resistance at the lock.
