Getting a respray... any tips?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NC 2008 Roadster
  2. I’m based near: Bucks
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Respraying the car

So, I’m a plumber in Bucks and my bonnet is trashed with scratches all over it and I’ve got micro blistering all over the panel behind the hardtop roof (common issue I understand). The car is in Stormy Blue and I’m going to keep it the same, but wondered if anyone had any experience or tips that I might take on board before it goes into the shop. I’ve already got a bodyshop (I fitted his shower so we’re doing a deal).

Thanks!

Trust him to do as good a job as you did.
No pre-prep I can think of.
As long as you are happy enough looking at other work he’s doing.

Remove all your personal belongings and anything of value.
Seat covers and floor covers as Bodyshops are messy dusty places.
Set the expectations with him upfront i.e. no overspray, proper masking off etc.

When my car was resprayed I found out that the garage loved mending and painting cars to a high standard but disliked giving them a proper clean afterwards (dust etc).
As far as prep goes, all I’d say is havenit clean beforehand but use only water.

Hi, when mine go in the body shop I always give them a thorough wash first with hot water and washing up liquid to remove as much of the residual polish as possible.
The sprayer who I know well says it makes his job a lot easier.
