Hi, Is there a way of getting to the last post of a mega-thread/topic without having to scroll past the first 900 posts?

Good question 
Look at the FIRST post and below that you will see replies made by users.
You will also see the last reply by the last user.
Click on the “last reply” in that box and it takes you to the last reply.

Blue slider bar on the right of the screen (on a PC)
Grab the thick bit with the date next to it, and slide it down to the bottom.
See the post number increment to show where you are.

Rather than using the slider as @RichardFX suggests, you can just click on the “XX ago” that’s just below the slider to take you to the latest post.

just hit the “End” key if using a laptop. Likewise the “Home” key will take you to the first post

On an Apple, CMD and either up arrow or down arrows takes you to the first and last posts respectively.
Having played around with threads on my iPad, if you tap the grey/blue box in the bottom right corner (which shows x/xx posts), it gives you the option to “Jump to”, type in last post and voila!
Every day’s a school day!

<fn> + <Left arrow> or <Right arrow> achieves the same thing
<fn> + <Up arrow> or <Down arrow> does ‘page up’ or ‘page down’
